Happy Autumn Equinox

The streets around our school were full of people enjoying the gorgeous weather as well as having time off for the National Holiday, today. When we walked to the park, there were so many people walking to Azabu Juban and they smiled when they saw us. When Shelley came to photo-1the park, she saw a man with his dog tucked into his shirt, wearing goggles. We thought that it was a cute photo!

In the park, Alexis and Mika took care of the flowers in our garden, as some of them looked awful. We poured water all around them and not on the leaves as Darren had told us last week…..because the sun will then burn the leaves! We had a great time playing in the warm ???????????????????????????????sunshine and moving our bodies.

In class today we continued with our weaving and have made a lot of progress. Miyu and Lexis spent time doing it. It takes a long time, so only a few of us get a chance to do it each day. Our teachers are thinking many steps ahead and when we are finished, we will frame it and auction it off to raise money for a charity.

We will add many different collage materials to it and will create a real work of art. At the moment we are threading sparkly yarn, coloured yarn and elasticized pieces of fabric, which were from a mat from the 100Yen store. We have learnt to weave the fabrics in and out and then pull them through at the bottom. There are some large knots where ??????????????????????our teachers had to join the fabrics together which we pushed to the back. Our loom is a wire rack.

We looked at things that were similar about our friends today and saw that Michaela and Lilian were wearing the exact same colours. They had turquoise blue tops and pink leggings and shorts. This made us look further and Hisami noticed that two children in the class were wearing rabbits on their T-shirts; one was Alexis and one was Miyu. ??????????????????????The next thing that Liezel noticed was two of us wearing dogs on our shirts; one was Vincent and the other was Mika. Shelley then noticed that many of us had stripes on our clothes and we said that zebras have stripes on their bodies. Lucinda had turquoise blue and pink writing on her top and Liezel and Shelley both had red tops on.

Mika brought two books to school today. One was called “Where is the baby’s bellybutton” and the other was called “Dear Zoo”. When she had finished reading them to us, Shelley asked us: “Why do you have a bellybutton?” We all showed her our bellybuttons and said that it was on our tummy for eating! We also like to say ??????????????????????“because”. She showed us a beautiful book that had pictures made out of paper in it. We saw a picture of a baby growing inside a mummy and it had a long pink string like a sausage that was joined to our tummies. She told us that the food from the mummy went into our bodies via the “umbilical cord” so that we could grow. When we were born, there was no need to get food from our mummies anymore and ??????????????????????we said that babies eat milk. So the doctor cut the cord.

Our bellybuttons are where the cord was joined to our bodies.

We painted pressed leaves this morning and will do another activity with them tomorrow. We will attach them to a piece of contact together with “nekko jarashi” which are plants that look like a cat’s bushy tail.

We made patterns with beads on a string at one of the other activity tables.

Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel.
