Extending us a little
We didn’t have a journal on Friday because only our mums and dads were at school. Isn’t it funny to think that our mums and dads were at school and were weren’t? Our teachers said that they had a great time with our mums and dads on Friday, talking about us and how we are in the classroom and who and how they see us with our friends. When we are with our mums and dads, were are often different. Our mums and dads were really happy to hear the things that our teachers said about us. They know that we love going to school at Ohana and having fun while learning.
Today we started off doing some activities at the tables together with free play on the carpet. Our teachers were thinking that many of us have already learnt how to snip small pieces of paper with a pair of scissors; maybe some of us can actually cut out shapes. So they gave us each a piece of paper with a square, circle, triangle and diamond on it. We could decorate the shapes and then we tried to cut them out. Some of us did a fantastic job cutting the actual shapes out and those of us who are still learning how to manipulate a pair of scissors properly,
cut through the shapes; which was also an indication that they were successful.
We were sooooo happy to welcome Iva back to school after a long holiday in Singapore and Thailand. She grew so much and happily greeted some of us with a hug. Luka had the hugest smile on his face when he saw Iva as he missed her so much when she was away. They held hands and played together on the mat and in the park. We did another activity with mirrors. There were two of us sitting with Shelley and we chatted about our faces and all the things that we have on them. We remembered that we have two eyes, two ears, one nose, one mouth, eye brows (which Adrien mentioned) and hair on top of our head. We then used a pencil to draw our faces. This is the first time that some of us have been able to draw one; which our teachers will paste into our Portfolio/Workbooks.
We did another interesting thing at school today with a machine called a shredder. The shredder shreds paper into thin pieces which of course we will use for an activity in our class. In face Hisami already experimented with the shredded paper and made a fish. Not all of us put paper into the shredder as we were busy doing something else. For those of us who helped shred the paper, we each received a piece of paper and then placed it into a thin slot. As soon as we put it in the slot, something inside the machine, pulled the paper inside the machine. When we had all finished putting our pieces of paper into the shredder, Shelley took the pplu out and we looked inside. We saw a heap of shredded pieces of paper which we enjoyed touching and squeezing. We filled
one of our bins almost up to half and will continue shredding some more papers tomorrow so that we can fill it even more.
During circle time, we sat together after holding hands in a circle and all of us did a few actions. In the middle of the carpet we saw an egg and Shelley started to tell us our favourite story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and it went like this…….”In the light of the moon on a little green leaf, sat an…………..” And it followed with a caterpillar popping out of the egg, feeling really hungry and going off in search of food. We all tried to remember what he ate and then we received a card with that specific food on it, and wore it around our necks. We went through everything that he ate and then after he had spun a cocoon around himself, he emerged as a beautiful butterfly; and we sang our gentle butterfly song. We love the story and will be doing it for our families when they come for our End of Year childrens party.
Love always Shelley, Hisami, Liezel, Nanako, Ayaka and Goh.
