Our Family's Birthplace

Happy Friday! We continued working on our Valentine cards and February collaborative art. Both crafts involved some writing activities, which we like although it is a little challenging. We sounded out the letters of the things that we would like to say and then wrote them on the card. Please check out our photos!

As we are celebrating Valentine’s Day next week, we listened to several Valentine songs and picked the ones we would like to sing. The songs that we chose are

(If You Love Me and You Know It)

We can’t wait to sing these songs at our Valentine’s Day Party next week!

CIRCLE TIME

We were surprised that instead of singing, Vieda played the song so we could make a circle for our circle time. When all of us were ready for the circle, Vieda started to whisper. We learned that she lost her voice. We wanted to help her so we decided that we would also whisper! Yu asked, “Why is it so quiet today?!”. It seemed like a perfect QUIET DAY! We realized how easy it was to hear other people’s voices when we are quiet😊

First, we looked at our calendar and checked our schedule. Ai said, “We have 4 days of no school”. At the mention of “no school”, our friends excitedly shared their plans with us.

Sh: I’m gonna go to Disneyland and Disney Sea.

Co: I’ll go to Yamanashi from today.

A: I’m going to snow tonight.

Zo: And then roll and then ball.

We heard that on February 11th, only the teachers are coming to Ohana. We wondered what they were going to do.

Yu: Do teachers eat coffee on number 11?

              Sh: Teachers talk about PTC?

              Ri: Teachers are gonna play?

FUN with NUMBERS 1 to 30!

It called for teamwork for us to arrange the numbers in order from 1 to 30. We picked 2 number cards and worked as a team to arrange them. Everyone was excited to put their number cards on the floor, that at times pushed the cards away from the line. It somehow made our friends upset. Co said, “I will call the number and you guys put them here”. Then, Re and R went into the line of numbers and aligned all the numbers into one line. Sh placed number 30 and put it at the very end of the line and sat near it. When all the numbers were on the floor, we counted to check they were lined up correctly.

QUESTION of the DAY (Do you know where your mom or dad was born?)

(YES)

Ri: My dad born Setagaya. Mom is Kyoto.

Ai: Daddy is in England and my mom is born in New Jersey.

Sh: I think both mom and dad are born in New York.

Co: Mom is born in Japan. Dad is New Jersey. I went to America and there’s grandma and grandpa. There was the house he was born.

Ty: Dad is Japan and mom is born in Japan. They didn’t tell me but I know.

Yu: I don’t know. China and Japan. I born in Japan or China?

Br: I’m good. Born in where the kangaroo is.

Re: Daddy is born Ishikawa. Mommy is Wakayama.

Talking about our parents’ birthplace, we wondered if the place has special food.

              Ri: Sweet beans in Kyoto

Co: Special spicy soup in India

Ai: Oh, I don’t know in England but in New Jersey, I had chocolate chip ice cream.

Re: What country is this one (pointing to Australia)?

We had a short chat about koalas and kangaroos that we see in Australia. We really enjoyed learning about different countries, their special food, and many more interesting things about them! Through our international months and current learning theme, we are excited to discover our family’s culture and many special things about them.

Have a wonderful LONG weekend!!! See you all on Wednesday. Don’t forget to wear your Ohana T-shirt or Ohana sweatshirt when we come back to school on the 12th.

 Lots of love,

Flowers XOXO
