Practicing for Sports Day!
Happy Friday everyone! The weather forecast at the beginning of the week said we were going to have lots of rain, hopefully Tuesday will stay cloudy for our Sports Day! Today we worked on our Emotion Flipbook and pasted white paper scraps on a cardboard box. We played with the animal toys for a little bit then got ready for the park. Just as we were going to have a picnic, we felt a few rain drops. To be safe, we decided to eat our snacks inside the classroom and see if it will really rain. Luckily for us, it didn’t rain so we went to the green area of Step Park to practice one of our games for Sports Day, the Bucket Race. At both ends of the area, our teachers placed a bucket. One bucket was full of water and the other was empty. The goal was to soak the sponge into the bucket with water, then run to the empty bucket and squeeze the water out. Today, we tried practicing how to play the game, and worked on some tricks so we could get the most out of every squeeze.
The cloudy weather this morning helped us feel fairly cool when we were racing at the park! Once we got back to Petals Class we sang our good morning song so Mia could remember our names, then practiced our Petals Chant for Sports Day. We reviewed the three feelings we have been learning this week and thought about them while we read today’s story, “Slug Needs A Hug!” by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross. The story was about a little slug that wondered why his mommy never gave him a hug. He asked many animal friends for advice and tried his best to get his hug. Turns out the mommy didn’t give him a hug because she didn’t have hands! Instead she gave the little slug a big kiss!
Nimo: How do you feel when you get a kiss from your mommy?
Petals: Happy!
We played a little game where we had three chairs with a picture on each of them. One had a happy face, the other had a sad face, and the last one had an angry face. Our teachers would act out a scenario and we had to think how we would feel if it happened to us.
Nimo: How about we start with this one. Remember in the book the bird said, “You look funny chummy!” How would you feel if someone said you look funny?
L: Sad
M: Funny!
Many of our friends ended up near the sad chair.
What if you are hungry and about to eat a slice of yummy pizza, but someone suddenly takes your yummy pizza?
T: Angry
K, M, and B agreed as they stomped their way to the angry chair.
D: No pizza…sad.
M: Sad…
For our next scenario, our Mommys put broccoli on the table for us to eat.
P: Sad…
B: Angry…
M: Angry
R: Happy! I like broccoli!
E: I like broccoli!
For our last one, we were told we are not allowed to eat ice cream for dessert:
K: Angry! I want ice cream.
B: *Angry face*
M: I want ice cream.
L, P, D, and T said they were sad.
M and R were at the happy chair and told her teachers. “I don’t like ice cream!”
After our feelings activity we tried practicing the Big Pants race and the Tamaire game! We can’t wait for the actual Sports Day!
Thank you all for another fabulous week and we hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Petals
