The Colors of Us
After our fun-filled morning activities, we had our story time in the library. Before reading the book, Vieda asked us what we think our skin color is. We immediately looked at our arms to check and happily shared it with our friends.
Sh: I think I am orange.
Co: I think I am pinkish white.
R: Brown and white
T: Little bit brown
Re: Pinkish and white.
Ma: I’m black.
O: I think red.
Ai: Little bit white.
Mi: Brown and white
Yu: Brown
Zo: Orange
If that’s our skin color, we also thought of the food that matches our skin color.
Sh: The inside of the chicken
Mi: White chocolate
Co: Not cooked bread
Re: Potato’s inside
M: Sweet potato
O: Apple and strawberry
Ai: Sweet potato
Rimi: Potato
Ty: Bread
Z: Kinoko
It was interesting to note that we have different skin colors, which we associate with different types of food. We all agreed that our skin colors do not compete. This means that one color is better than the other. Mi said, “Your color is okay! After this engaging discussion about our skin colors, we read the book, “The Colors of Us by Karen Katz”.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you like clay?)
Big thanks to Y for reading today’s question. Some of us were not quite sure about what clay is. Luckily, some of our friends helped in explaining what it is.
Sh: It’s like play dough but it is more soft.
Ai: Play dough is really soft. Clay is much softer.
Co: It’s soft and it’s sticky more than play dough.
Mi: Just like a play dough, but not play dough.
We cheered when we learned that we were going to have a clay activity today! Surprisingly, we had 3 types of clay that we explored today. They were light clay, air dry clay, and paper clay. Each type of clay had its unique texture, softness and color. We enjoyed rolling, pinching, and shaping each of them. At the beginning of the activity, we also learned that the big difference among these types of clay is whether they can be reused or not. So, at the end of the activity, we placed everything that we created in a tray. We will check on Monday which among them becomes hard and which ones can be reused.
Have a lovely weekend!
We can’t wait to have our grandparents’ day celebration on Monday! For those who won’t be able to make it, we hope you will like the special cards that we made for you😊
Love,
