We Love Nature!
Today’s circle time kicked off by singing one of our favorite songs, “Do You Like Lasagna” and had fun expressing which food we really liked! We also sang our favorite Sit on the Mat and Clap song and enjoyed the actions that were incorporated into the action song. Finally, a song especially made for sitting on a rug for circle time was played. For most of us it was the first time that we heard it and enjoyed the very upbeat rhythm of it!
QUESTION of the DAY (Do you love nature?)
Before discussing what we think of the question, we tried to define what nature is.
Mi: Nature is…
Mi: Something, somewhere.
Re: It can be next to your home.
Th: I think that nature you can hear many things like river and animals.
Talking about today’s question, our friends who answered no said, “Because we don’t know what nature is.”.
Ak: Nature like grass.
Mi: Rainforest
Yo: One time in nature, I got a rock. I was 3. I saw a hole in my school.
Ty: Cold nature
Sh: A jungle
Thank you for sharing! Now that we know what nature is, we talked about some things we could do to show that we love it. One example that we thought of was paper. We are aware that paper came from trees. What can we do to show that we love nature? Let’s check some practical ways we can do it.
Ak: We can recycle.
Sh: Sometimes I saw someone at the park cutting a tree.
Ke: When I was coming to Ohana this morning, I saw one person cutting down a big tree. Oh no!
Hi: The tree in the book look like the color of paper.
Ta: Why does paper have to come from trees.
Th: If you want paper, you need to chop down, but you can plant a seed.
Mi: If it’s a lot of pages in a book, we need more trees.
Ak: But now, there’s something we can use to make paper, so we don’t need to cut many trees.
Hi: The bear is scary. But it’s so fluffy, but we cannot touch it because it will bite.
Ta: There are lots of bears in Canada. Oh no! Is Krystal okay?
Yo: Once a dog bite me in America.
Hi: We’re safe in Tokyo.
Ak: It’s hard in Hokkaido because there are a lot of bears that go to people’s houses. And we are going there soon!
K: My dad went to Hokkaido but he didn’t fight with the bears.
Sh: I went to Hokkaido but I didn’t see bears.
Ta: But how do bears catch and eat fish?
We have been fascinated with the bears, so we got excited when we saw a short video clip of how bears catch and salmon. It was amazing to learn that there are bears who can eat 20 hours a day!
STORY TIME
We read a book called Into the Forest by Rachel Burlington which highlighted the creatures in the forest. Each page gave us a window into some of the interesting and yet hidden beauty of the forest. After admiring the exotic animals and beautiful plants for each season, the last page for the autumn season caught our attention. It was a scene that we are all familiar with. It’s camping! We could see a campfire with sticks of meat and vegetables, as well as marshmallows. Then we remembered that one of the table activities this morning was decorating a tent frame made of craft sticks. We got so excited when Vieda told us that while Cameron will talk more about camping tomorrow, she announced that Friday will be our Camping Day in Flowers! Yay!
On Friday, Flowers will close this week’s theme by having a camping day! We won’t have our regular pool play and instead spend the morning in our “tents” and enjoy a pretend campfire, too! Please pack your things and food and join our camping day on Friday!
We are excited to hear your ideas about camping tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
