Who's the bad guy?

7/4/2024

Hello everybody and welcome back to Flowers’ Summer School. During this week, we have been training our brains and learning a lot about animal prints, fingerprints and more! We can’t wait to share with you about what we’ve learned, but before that, here is our journal so you can have an idea! Thank you for reading it!

After playing and splashing in the pool, we changed into our clean clothes before gathering for our daily circle time. We started with a refresher of what we learned the previous days.

K.: Plant prints with Vieda.

H.: About do people have prints?

Then, we had a look at the different types of fingerprints that we learned about yesterday with Cameron.

W.: Loop and whorl.

R.: Mine is number 2.

Sh.: I think mine is everything.

H.: I have everything too.

J.: My mommy is whorl.

R.: Looks like arch.

T.: I think I have nothing.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: “Can we use fingerprints?”

Everybody looked at their fingers and tried to guess their types while looking at the picture. Then, M. read the Question of the Day for us: “Can we use fingerprints?”

R.: Our fingerprints are like when you stamp something on paper.

O.: Fingerprint is this.

R.: I think we can draw with our fingerprints.

K.: Jam.

T.: Like, you can put your finger in the jelly.

W.: Eh? Like on toast!

T.: Can you copy them.

Th.: You can paint with you fingerprints.

Then, Axel explained that there is a special job in which you use fingerprints. They are called forensic scientists. We tried to guess what forensic science about and why they use fingerprints.

K.: Scientist!

M.: Maybe they are acting something.

M.: I think this is a scientist.

Th.: I think it’s a special scientist that has a special lab, like my mom. But they work with the police, and they catch bad guy.

H.: Somebody touch and then they know if they are bad guy.

After exchanging ideas on the topic, we played two games.

The first one was a memory game where we had to find the matching cards. But those cards were special! They had our teachers’ fingerprints printed on them. All the teachers at Ohana gave willingly their fingerprints for this one! For example, if we found Axel’s card, we had to flip the other card with Axel’s fingerprint. It was a bit difficult at first but then we used our brains to remember which card we already flipped so it would be easy to not flip them again.

Then we played a second game called “Who’s the bad guy”. This morning, someone hid a treasure full of crystals in our classroom. To find the culprit, our teacher showed us 3 different fingerprints (one from each of the Flowers’ class teachers) as well as the one from the crime scene! We had to look at them under a magnifying glass and see which one matched the print of the culprit! Then our friends deliberated on who was the culprit:

- 2 votes for Vieda

- 4 votes for Cameron

- 12 votes for Axel

And we were right! It was Axel’s print, he confessed to taking the treasure and gave it back to us! It was really fun to play like detective or forensic scientists!

Our tummies were feeling so empty after playing for so long so we decided to head to lunch!

Thank you for following our daily adventures.

Lots of Love,

Children from the Flowers Class
