Treasure Hunters

It’s the final week of summer school! Let’s enjoy the last few days with our friends in Flowers Class!

CIRCLE TIME

We’ve had fun with each of the themes throughout summer school, and we’re ready for the last one! Some of us have known for a while that this week is “pirate week.” We will be treasure hunters in search of something special!

We started by describing what pirates are and what they do!

T: They find treasure on the treasure map, and sail across the seven seas!

K: Find treasure and fight other pirates! The pirate we have a map, and then you dig. Not just one treasure, maybe five!

Y: Hunt for the treasure!

T: The “X” is the treasure! If you dig and dig, you’ll find the treasure. Sometimes they have 2 “X”, one for the big boat and one for the little boat. Then they hold the treasure and put it in the pirate ship and go somewhere else.

M: They sail around the earth. They find a treasure and they mark the spot.

T: Sometimes some pirate ships are funny! Sometimes when they open the box, there’s nothing inside!

T: Even if the box is empty, they can still reuse it for other treasure.

We were all very excited to find the treasure! We read a book called The Pirate Cruncher by Jonny Duddle. In the book, the pirates find a treasure map and are dreaming about what kind of treasure they will find. They say that they will be rich!

T: What is rich?

T: You have so many money, and you’re very rich! Which means you can buy anything you want!

M: You can buy more than a thousand!

However, for the pirates in the story, the journey ended up being very dangerous and the pirates ended up inside a monster’s stomach! After reading the book, we weren’t so excited about finding treasure anymore. It was a bit too scary for our taste.

T: I don’t like treasure anymore!

Then we had a chance to look for treasure in our classroom with maps!

H: Can we take the treasure home today? Maybe if we sit nicely like criss cross applesauce, then we can take the treasure home.

Unfortunately, we can’t take it home, because it is Ohana’s treasure. We wondered what would happen if we did…

K: Police gonna come! Because pirate is bad guy!

So today we’ll just find the treasure and return it!

We took turns hiding and finding the treasure with our friends! Afterwards we shared our thoughts about reading maps.

K: It was hard because I forgot if it’s here or there!

Y: Easy! Because they hide it in the same place!

T: I don’t know because I don’t know directions!

Let’s see what other treasure we will find this week!

Love,
