A Ballerina for our Career Day

CAREER DAY

Today was the last day for our Career Day and were very happy to welcome our very own, Maryna as our guest. Some of us were surprised to see her in a different outfit on our Career Day. So, she asked, “Can people have more than one job?”. Th answered, “Of course, you do. You are a ballerina. Ty also said, “You can have two jobs”, as we all know that Maryna works in the office and works as a ballerina, too!

          Ma: What is ballet?

M: Is something where you wear a different clothes and dance.

E: Is it something like a dance?

Th: Exercising because you are a ballet. Boys can do ballet, too.

Maryna showed us her special outfit and its name. For boys, E said, “Boys wear white shirts and black pants with black shoes and white socks”. We love Maryna’s outfit. We turned our attention to her bag which she said contained things that are special to her. Th guessed that they must be “ballerina stuff”. Can you guess what the things she had in her bag? Please check the photo on ClassDojo to find out! Hi said that it could be “massager”, or “a water bottle,” said Ar.

Here are the many things that Maryna uses as a ballerina, that we find very interesting!

·       Long pink elastic band that does not rip even when stretched!

·       A pair of stockings that have holes on the bottom

*Ta: It has holes because it is too hot!

*Hi: If you take it out every day, it will be bigger and bigger.

·       A roller to massage feet

·       A special green and hard ball that ballerinas, like Maryna pick up with their toes!

·       A spiky ball that changes its shape as it massages your foot!

*E: This feels spiky and ticklish. It looks like a number 8 on the ball!

·       LUCKY LAST was something inside a bag of a guitar or violin case. What could it be? Some of our friends peeked inside and described it to Flowers class.

*T: It is a pink wriggly thing to maybe like hold it and stretch your backs.

*E: Pink wriggly thing

Maryna took it out of the case while we were still left puzzled as to what it is for.

T: Is it for scrubbing your back?

          O: Rub face?

Hi: It is like a spinner.

We were just amazed to see Maryna’s ballet items. Lastly, she showed us the different types of ballet shoes (pointe shoes) that ballerinas wear. We also had the chance to watch a short video clip that showed how ballet shoes are carefully crafted and made by shoemakers. We were a bit shocked to hear that the long ribbon that saw on the ballet shoes were not made by the shoemakers, but by the ballerinas themselves!

Thank you so much for sharing about ballerinas, dear Maryna!

CIRCLE TIME

After rehearsing for Rainbow Fish musical play, we talked about our Question of the Day. We could not help but smile as we read it, “Do you know your name?”. Of course, we do! Vieda read to us a new book entitled, “That’s NOT My Name!” by Anoosha Syed. The book talks about a girl named Mirha who was very excited to attend a new school, only to feel upset when her friends and some teachers could not say her name properly. How would we feel if it happened to us? We shook our heads and felt that it would be sad. Then, we recalled incidents where we made fun of our friends’ names and felt that it was not nice to do so. We stopped on a page that says Mirha’s name means happiness. M asked Vieda, “How about my name? What does Ma mean?”. Everyone started to wonder what their names meant, too. So, for our homework, please ask your mom or dad the meaning of your name. It will be exciting to know the meaning of our friends’ names!

Before lunch time, Vieda showed us another book that we are very interested in. The book is about numbers! We remember that Ch, the scientist, said that we can become like her too because we love numbers. This book is about different ways we can count to 100, and even skip counting, too! The book is called One Hundred Way to Get to 100 by Jerry Pallotta.

What a fabulous Friday we had! Have a fantastic weekend everyone! See you on Monday!

Love,

Flowers XOXO
