We Love Rhymes

CIRCLE TIME

Krystal asked us if we knew what rhymes are. We chorused, “Yes!”. Then she took out a bag and told us that she had some things inside of it. We wondered what things were inside and what we were about to do. She continued by saying, “Please take out one thing from the bag and think of a word that you think rhymes with it”. We love rhymes and we love activities that are challenging like this one! Yay, this sounded fun!

We waited for our names to be called and were excited about what item we would pick out from the bag. Se took out eyeglasses and Ma said, “Grass rhyme with eyeglass!”. The following items that were picked out from the bag were a little challenging and yet we enjoyed it. Krystal was impressed when we came up with rhyming pairs such as bamboo/shampoo, cat/mat, and milk/silk.

Speaking of rhymes, today’s Question of the Day was about rhymes as well. Vieda was very excited when she noticed that everyone answered YES to the question, “Do you know about rhymes?”. Nothing was more exciting than making our own version of our favorite song, Down by the Bay. So far, here is what we came up with:

Mi: Did you ever see K GOING TO NIIGATA?

Re: Did you ever see A EATING A BANANA?

Re: We can do HARMONICA for VE.

Ve: Did you ever see E eating a tomato.

Mi: We can also say E eating a potato.

Ta: Can we do elephant for Ei?
Ma: No, rhymes have the same ending sounds, not the beginning sounds.

Re: Did you ever see H eating kyuuri? Oh but that’s the Japanese name for cucumber.

T: I like to say bacon for Se. Did you ever see Se frying bacon?

Mi: I know one for Ta. Did you ever see Ta playing the yoyo?

Vieda: O, what can we sing for you? How about your baby brother.

O: Sh. O playing with Sh.

Sh: How about for Mi. Re?

              Vieda: Ah how about stingray?

Th: Yes, let’s do that. Did you ever see Mi looking at the stingray.

Sh: I have for me. Did you ever see Sh playing with his cousin Sh! Because my cousin has the same name as me!

Hi: For Th, we can sing, “Did you ever see Th playing the door?”.

T: No, I don’t want to play with the door. I think I have one for me. Did you ever see Th playing with R. Remember our friend, R?

Amazing job, Flowers! We are almost finished with our rhyme song. We ran out of time so as homework, so we asked our friends to think of a word that rhymes with Cl, Co, and Ar. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas!

After our circle time, we had our rehearsal for our musical play and graduation ceremony. We hope you will enjoy our presentation!

Please remember to wear your Ohana T-shirt tomorrow.

Love,
