Counting Stars

Tuesday, December 10th - Counting stars

We are enjoying our last week of the term and keeping ourselves busy with all sorts of fun activities. On the first table we had tubs of colored rice with scoops and cups along with the sand spinning wheel. R sifted through the rice and stirred it around with scoops. H and Y filled up the scoops and poured it into the sand spinning wheel, it was fun to watch it fall through to make the wheels spin. N grabbed handfuls of rice to fill up the cups.

On the second table we had number matching puzzles. I said “fish” and “ice cream” as he held up the pieces. M counted ten paintbrushes and found the number ten to connect the pieces together.

In the free play area we had tactile balance beams and the soft slide set out. A had a huge smile as she climbed up the stairs and slid down. L went up and down the slide many times and laughed every time.

During circle time we wrapped up the end of the year with our hot and cold bags and passed them around to the song “pass the bean bag”. When I felt them she said “It’s hot” and “It’s cold”. We all tried our best to pass the bags around but sometimes it was much more fun to hold onto it. After we finished with our hot and cold bags we practiced counting stars. We counted all the way up to ten and then we read one of our favorite books “Ten little night stars” by Deb Gruelle. Ichiri and Isa did a great job counting the stars in the book. Great job! We also practiced singing “Twinkle twinkle little star” while holding up our hands and twinkling our fingers as we sang, everyone did a great job singing with the hand actions.

After snack we headed out and walked to the pond to see if we could spot any fish and we were lucky enough to see three little gold fish swimming around. We were more interested in the beautiful willow tree and its long branches covered in leaves. After our little trip to the pond we headed to the green area in step park to run off any remaining energy we had before we headed back for lunch and a nap.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our winter party tomorrow.

Love,
