Birthday Party and Turkeys

Happy Friday! And a happy 5th birthday to our dear Zo! We got excited when we came in today and saw the birthday banners across the room. Zo came and said, “My birthday”. Birthdays are always great to celebrate with our friends at school. Many thanks to Te and X (Zo’s parents) for coming to celebrate with us. Flowers friends were so eager to ask Zo questions and felt lucky that he agreed to have 5 questions. Here they are:

To: What is 1 plus 2?

              Zo: 3!

O: What fruits do you like?

              Z: I like orange.

Re: What flavor of cake is your favorite?

              Zo: I like rainbow chocolate.

Ma: What car do you like?

              Zo: I like rainbow car!
             R: What’s your favorite color?
Zo: I like rainbow color! I like purple!

We played Pass the Ball game where the person who held the ball when the music stopped had a special role to play. The person who had the ball wore special eyeglasses and then danced to the tune of Chicken Dance! Some of us blushed when it was our turn to dance, while some were thrilled to see their friends wore special eyeglasses while dancing. We sang the birthday song for Zo and enjoyed delicious cupcakes baked by his mom. Thank you so much for celebrating with us😊

QUESTION of the DAY (Are turkeys birds?)

Vieda played an animal sound and asked us to guess which animal it was.

To: Bird. I know it! Dolphin. Dolphin go in the ocean.

Ri: Flamingo or horse

Yu: Dolphin

R: Flamingo

M: Dolphin or horse

Zo: Monkey

Ty: Rooster

Sho: Monkey

Yu: Cat

Mi: Dolphin

Oj: I was right. It’s a bird!

M: But turkeys are not birds.

We could not believe that the sound we heard was the sound that turkeys make! We went straight to our question of the day after Mi’s comment. Here are some of the things we shared:

Sh: Birds are flying, and turkeys can’t fly.

O: One time, I catch and it fly away.

              To: Turkey can fly.

Re: Penguin cannot fly but it’s a bird.

To: Birds can catch fish in the water and eat it. I saw a big turkey, but he had rainbow colors.

Ai: I know that birds can fly but turkeys cannot.

Oj: Mukashi, penguins have feathers, and they can fly but I got 5 years old and they cannot fly now.

Whenever it is Thanksgiving, we hear people talk about turkeys. So, we thought it would be nice to learn some things about turkeys. Here are some of the facts about turkeys that made us giggle and excited!

·       Turkeys can run. Mano was so surprised to hear it and asked, “faster than me?!”

·       What else can they do? Mano quickly replied, “Swim! Because ducks can swim with feet!”.

·       Turkeys have special names for boys and girl turkeys. Vieda wrote the words on the board, and we were able to read them! Let’s see who remembers them😊

·       We can tell whether the turkey is a boy or a girl by the shape of its poop. One big hint for the boy turkey is that it is one of the letters in the alphabet, while it is one of the lines for the girl turkeys. Ri guessed it right for the boy and Yi for the girl. The answers are J-shaped for the boys and curly for the girls.

A week full of celebrations, learning facts about babies and turkeys, and dancing and singing has passed. Counting the days in our calendar made us realize that it’s already DECEMBER when we come to school on Monday. Wow, time flew by so quickly!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Lots of love,

Flowers XOXO
