Happy Thanksgiving!
Today was a very busy morning for us! As soon as we arrived at school our teachers called us to their tables and we helped them prepare the vegetables for our special Thanksgiving Lunch! Our teachers carefully assisted us to peel the carrot and potatoes and then chopped them into small pieces. It was a very fun activity and many of us wanted to help more! Some of our friends just enjoyed watching our teachers cook! We had a much longer free play time than usual to give our friends and teacher enough time to prepare. Once all the vegetables were ready, our teachers took them into the kitchen to cook them. Evita made caramel from butter and sugar then put in the baked sweet potatoes to make our yummy dessert! Nimo put the vegetables in a pot with water then added dashi (bonito broth), tofu and miso.
We sat in a circle and greeted each other.
S: Good morning!
D: Today, we have 12 friends! Hmm. Wait, let me count… 11!
P: Today I am snack leader.
T: Me too! I’m snack leader.
Then we sang our “How Are You Today” song.
J: Happy!
M: I’m happy too!
P: I’m surprised, because mommy got lost!
T: I’m scared because I’m hiding from the monster.
D: Surprised!
K: Happy
L: I’m surprised because the monster crashed my big red car again.
S: Angry! (Why?) I don’t know *smiles*
E: I’m sad, because… I don’t remember.
R: Happy!
B: Happy!
We sang the “Months Of The Year” song and then looked at the calendar.
D: Today is 28!
M: Thanksgiving!
R: Turkey
M: A bird
D: It’s 10 O’clock!
L: I don’t like the snood.
J: Turkey, yummy!
Nimo: What did we do this morning?
R: Cut!
E: Potato.
R: And carrots, we are cooking!
Nimo: Today is Thanksgiving, what do you think Thanksgiving means?
R: The dinosaur eat and no more lunch…
L: Painting?
M: Ball!
R: Train.
T: Thank you.
Before Nimo told us the answer we read a story about thanksgiving. Today’s book was a story one of the moms in Ohana wrote and drew a very long time ago. R’s brother C was the one who made the title page for the book! In the book, “The Story Of Thanksgiving As Told By A, S, and D”, we learned about the Pilgrims and how the Native Americans helped them by showing them how to grow plants! They grew lots of vegetables so the Pilgrims said, “Thank you” to the Native Americans by inviting them to a big party full of food!
Before we ate snacks and got ready for the park, our teachers asked us to think about who we wanted to say, “thank you” to. While our friends were eating snacks, our teachers finished cooking and we played at Step Park!
When we got back we all sat at the table and talked about who we wanted to say thank you to.
D: Esmi
P: Mommy
S: Mommy and Daddy
K: Mommy
T: Evita
E: I want to say thank you to all of my friends, mommy and daddy, grandma and grandpa.
M: Mommy!
J: Mommy.
R: Mommy, grandma, and grandpa. I already say thank you to Daddy.
L: I want to say thank you to my mommy and daddy.
B: Mommy.
Our teachers said thank you to each other, family and friends then we all dug in! Our friends really liked our special miso soup and sweet potato dessert! Many of our friends asked for seconds, thirds, and even fourths! After stuffing ourselves with yummy food, it didn’t take much time for us to fall asleep for nap time!
Thank you all for another fabulous day! Happy Thanksgiving!
Love,
Petals
