On Being Thankful!

We have been having lots of fun as we start getting ready for our winter party. In the morning, we felt like sculptors as we made photo frames and holiday tree ornaments with paper clay. This is a process art and we are very excited to paint and decorate them once they get dry. We hope our families will love these gifts that we are making for them😊

In dance class, we enjoyed dancing to the tune of songs about snow, winter holidays, and animals, too! We also played a game where we danced in pairs. Thank you so much for such a fun dance class, Maryna!

CIRCLE TIME

Today was the last day of Evita in Flowers for our teacher exchange program. In our circle, she taught us a song about numbers and putting numbers together. We love numbers and enjoy singing and simple math drills. Thank you for spending two days in our Flowers Class, Evita! As we continued having fun with numbers, we tried to count the number of friends who answered YES or NO just with our EYES! Can you believe counting with just your eyes?! Vieda put some number tiles on the board and rearranged them and asked us to read them. Our teachers reminded us to look at the number who is like a “line leader” because it is in front.  It was impressive to hear Flowers friends saying the numbers. We look at big numbers and are always happy to take the challenge of guessing the proper way to read them. Then, the number tiles were rearranged from 1 to 10 and then started discussing the Question of the Day.

QUESTION of the DAY (Are you thankful today?)

We were a little surprised to learn that thankful is also a feeling. We paused to think about the things we are thankful for.

(YES)

Ma: I am thankful for grandpa when he buys me something.

Ju: I am thankful for mommy for buying me toys. And I am also thankful for Mi, Sh, and Ai for playing with me.

Ri: I am thankful for Re for playing with me.

To: Yes, grandma! I like talking to grandma. I like walking with her, but she too fast and didn’t wait for me.

Re: I am thankful for my teachers for teaching me. Mom for giving me food, and my daddy! I just love my daddy. El for playing with me and I am thankful for my friends for playing with me, too!

(NO)

Ai: I think mommy forgot to get me snacks.

Mi: Because I wanted to play more with mommy this morning but she said I need to come here.

Sh: I am not thankful because I didn’t do nothing. I wanted to help my mommy but she didn’t ask me to do something for her.

O: I play games like this. Then my mommy said no more games. Come here.

In our discussion about the feeling of being thankful, we noticed that we thought we can be thankful for things that our family buys for us. As we continued in our discussion, we realized that being thankful for something that we see or experience is a reason to feel thankful, too! So, looking back at the numbers on the board, as a class, we tried to say 10 things that we are thankful for.

We are thankful for:

1.      The sunshine (Vieda)

2.      For the rain so I can use my umbrella and visit my grandparents (Ju)

3.      For good mangoes and durian (To)

4.      For the summer so I can go somewhere with my family (M)

5.      For the snow so we can go play (Ty)

6.      For Elena because she plays with me (Re)

7.      For Ella because she plays kitty cat with me (A)

8.      For Kensei for being nice to me (R)

9.      For the moon that I see (Y)

10. For the snow because I want to touch snowflakes (Mi).

We agreed with Ma when he said, “When you are thankful, your heart is happy!”. So, tomorrow we will try to think of 10 things that we are thankful for.

Before getting ready for lunch, we remembered that we had homework yesterday.

Ai: I forgot. I asked about what a wife is. I did ask her, but I forgot.

Ju: My mommy said wife is the mommy.

Re: Elena asked me to play with her. So, when I asked my mommy about homework, she said no more time.

Sh: I think you can see the baby in the tummy through a kind of goggles.

Mi: Wife is something like a mommy.

To: A spiky caterpillar?

Ma: I think a wife is a mommy.

Please feel free to share your answer to our homework tomorrow.

See you tomorrow!

Lots of love,

Flowers XOXO
