Hokey Pokey

It’s Monday and we are back at school! We started our morning finishing up crafts and playing with the whacky connectors. Today, we tried making hands and monsters! We packed our toys away early, because we had a lot to do for circle time! We started by singing our “Good Morning Song” to introduce ourselves to our new guest in Petals Class, Lucy! She is a teacher in Buds Class, but today and tomorrow, we are having “Teacher Exchange” where a teacher from each class gets to experience a different class! This time around, we get Lucy, Evita went up to Flowers, and Buds have Cameron. We sang out names for Lucy and she used her nice singing voice to tell us her name! We also went over our feelings for today then practiced for our winter party.

After our colors and feelings songs, we started our circle time for today. Last week’s nursery rhyme was Humpty Dumpty and we learned about hard, soft, light, and heavy. This week’s rhyme is “Hokey Pokey” and we started by learning about the bones in our body! Nimo showed us a big paper skeleton.

M: Ah! Scary!

R: It’s not scary.

E: It’s not real right?

J: Mummy…

Nimo got the body puzzle showed us the layers we have in our body.

L: Is this a boy?

Nimo: No, this one is a girl.

M: M too! Girl!

The outer layer is clothes and under our clothes we have our skin.

L: I take my clothes off to take a bath.

T: It’s cold when I take my clothes off.

Nimo: What is this *pointed at his skin*

R: Skin.

M: Head, hair!

T: There is skin on head too.

Nimo: Do you know what is inside your head?

E: Brain is inside!

Nimo: Do you want to see what is under the skin?

R: You well get broken…

Nimo took another layer off of the puzzle, and we saw red things under the skin.

T: Muscles!

Nimo: Good job! Under our skin we have muscles. The muscles help move your body! Under the muscles we have…

R: Skeleton!

L: One day I’ll be a skeleton (for halloween).

We did a quick review of yesterday and talked about how our skulls are hard and the brain inside is soft.

R: Rock is hard.

M: That *pointed at the cushion* is soft!

Nimo: Do you know this red thing in our chest?

E: Heart!

T: Thump…Thump… *imitated the sound of the heart*

We sang, “Dem Bones” as we reviewed the name of the bones we have in our body. After we went over our body parts we went over what it means to be “in” the circle and “out” of the circle. We listened to our teachers and helped them move things “in” the circle or “out”. We wrapped up by dancing Hokey Pokey! We ate our snacks then had fun playing in “Cheeky Cheeky Park (Iki Iki Plaza)*.

Thank you all for another lovely day! Have a wonderful evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
