A Fine Feathered Friend!

This morning we welcomed the sunshine into our class, along with a feathery new friend for us to illustrate and color! The bird just so happens to be a staple pheasant for Thanksgiving! He had big tail feathers, a big body and a silly beak. There were crayons out ready for us to use in red, brown, yellow and orange colors! I was so relaxed coloring the turkey’s feet. He really likes coloring!

N also showed amazing fine motor control to color in the leaf with brown and orange together. They also colored the turkey’s feathers! Well done buddy! L and Y even came over and colored the pumpkin in the picture orange! What a great bunch of illustrators!

On the back activity table was our squishy squeezy green play doh. R used a cookie cutter to stamp out star shapes with her friend Y, who showed her how to make a great star cookie! Nice teamwork!

In the free play area, the animals were climbing on top of the jumbo blocks! Oh goodness! L had lots of fun building but quickly walked over to check out the life books for a bit. S was very focused as he built a big house using mostly the red blocks and stomping about with his favorite dinosaur to oversee the building process.

After we cleaned up and sat down for circle time, Brandon showed us how to make a turkey by using our hands and invited us all to trace the outline of our hands and fingers which we will transform them into festive turkeys next week! M showed amazing control as she traced her hand. It’s a great challenge for our fine motor control to trace and go around shapes with markers, crayons and more. Brandon asked what the different parts of the turkey’s body were as he pointed to them and I was so proud to say “eyes!” when he pointed to them. We learned their mouth is called a “beak” and we all giggled when the teachers made a silly hat for him on the board. Gobble gobble! That’s the sound a turkey makes! We actually listened to a real life one at circle time and mimicked its sound. As we practiced, everyone was laughing at the teachers making the sound with each other.

Before we knew it, it was time to gobble gobble our snacks and head out to the park! When we arrived, the teachers blew huge bubbles! A was amazed at how they revealed rainbow colors when they flew into the sunshine! She gave a big “OH!” and chased after them with her friends! POP!

Thanks for a great week and have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Love,

Buds
