Remebering When We Were Born
Happy Monday! After the long break due to PTC, we’re happy to be back in Flowers Class!
CIRCLE TIME
To begin circle time, we played a game called, “Don’t wake the lion!” We needed to pass a musical instrument around the circle without making a sound. If we made a sound, the lion in the middle of the circle would wake up and eat us! We had fun passing around the instrument and were scared each time we made a noise!
QUESTION OF THE DAY
A: Do you know where you were born?
T: Hawaii
M: Not in this house, in that house. Before, my house was a bit small, so we changed it to a big one.
R: I don’t know. Maybe Wakayama.
R: Kyoto
Y: Hawaii
S: In Japan at a place called Aiku. The walls were white brown and there’s a park.
C: In Niseki byouin.
O: I dig and dig shovel and find bone!
Bone and born sound very similar! Can anyone explain what “born” means?
C: Getting outside of mommy’s tummy.
We tried to remember what it was like inside mommy’s tummy.
T: I think T was inside mommy’s tummy and it was dark. I see it on the computer.
A: Inside mommy’s tummy it was so dark!
S: There was some jelly inside.
R: I think it was dark in mommy’s tummy. But I was upside down. But upside down baby cannot drink. Maybe they’re scared? If I was upside down I’d be scared! Why upside down?
Our conversation turned to how babies eat while inside of a mommy’s tummy.
S: When the mommy is eating, the baby is eating too. The tummy is like a pumpkin!
T: We were sitting like that in mommy’s tummy. (fetal position)
J: The food goes to the baby and the baby wakes up and eat!
C: The food the mommy eats go to the tummy of the baby with a string. We don’t have to chew.
C showed us that the “string” that connects the baby to the mommy goes to the baby’s belly button! The rest of us were in disbelief.
C: When you’re born, they cut it off!
We were shocked to hear that! We all said, “that’s not right!” Our belly buttons couldn’t have been like that!
For our homework tonight, let’s find out what our belly buttons are for, and why we have them.
We talked a bit more about the day we were born. What do we call that day?
M: Baby day!
S: Birth?
J: Born…day!
T: Birthday!
We were a bit surprised to learn that the day we are born is our birthday and that’s why we celebrate each year on that specific day.
There was a bit of controversy over how old we are on the day we are born. Some of us said 0, and some of us said 1.
Part 2 of our homework today is to find out the answer! Do we start out as 1 year old or 0 years old?
Even though we can’t remember being in mommy’s tummy or being born, it’s still a very important time for us. Luckily, our families can share the details of that time with us!
Let’s keep talking about our life stories this week!
Have a wonderful evening! See you tomorrow!
Love,
