Musical Drawings

We started our circle time with a story, “Ravi’s Roar” by Tom Percival. It was a lovely story about Ravi, a boy who gets very angry and turns into a “tiger”. He loved being a tiger because he could shout and do whatever he wanted. After a short while, he noticed nobody wanted to play with him anymore. His dad helped him calm down and from then on, he found ways to manage his anger rather than turn into a “tiger”

E: Look, a tiger!

M: *Pointed at Ravi* Baby!

Nimo: Ravi is the youngest in the family. Do you have siblings?

R: I have mommy, daddy, brother, and R.

T: Me big brother!

L: The baby is *pointed at Nimo’s tummy*

P: My mommy tell me it’s small baby.

*Further into the story*

Nimo: What happens next?

E: Turn into a tiger!

T: Look he’s up there (in the tree).

R: Because he’s angry.

After our story we had a short talk about being angry.

Nimo: Is it okay to be angry?

L and B: No.

Nimo explained to us that it is okay to be angry, but we can’t use our ouchie hands or not-nice words.

E: Why did he not into a tiger anymore?

Nimo: Ravi learned how to say, “No thank you!” or “I don’t like it!”. He probably also took deep breaths to calm down. Do you want to turn into a tiger and not have any friends?

L: No. I like friends.

S: Say, “No thank you”.

For today’s activity, Nimo started by introducing us to Beethoven. We saw a picture, but we didn’t know who it was. Nimo told us he is a very famous person that made lots and lots of music! One super special thing about Beethoven is that his ears weren’t working like ours did. We all covered our ears and noticed we couldn’t hear anything, that’s what Beethoven’s ears were like. We sat down at the table with a blank piece of paper and the six colors we have been learning about. Our teachers would play a song by Beethoven and would listen to the song with our eyes closed and think about how the song makes us feel. After we found out what our feelings were, we chose the color that matched it and drew a picture. Today we listened to three songs by Beethoven, “Symphony No. 9”, “Ode to Joy”, and “Moonlight Sonata”. We all made amazing drawings!

Thank you all for another fabulous day! Hope you all have a great evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!
