Bear Hunt!
Wednesday, October 2nd- Bear Hunt!
Today was all about excitement and specifically how to BUILD excitement.
We welcomed our beautiful Buds into our classroom for a very fun and exciting day.
In the back of the room we had the toy trains laid out on a map of Tokyo. S L and Y loved playing with the trains. I did a great job of sharing with his friends on the train tracks.
Next to the trains we had the kitchen and food toys. A was pouring an imaginary cup of tea. I was using the clip to pick up fruit. H said “apple!” as he touched the apple. Y smiled as she carried the different foods around the room.
On the front table we had some clips. M was great at this, she taught her friend L how to do it. R also was curious about the yellow clips.
Before we knew it, it was circle time!
We made a beautiful circle, we sang the good morning song and it was go, go, go. Lucy showed us two cups, a green and orange one. Everyone was so curious,
“Whats that?” asked I. I and Y were staring at the cup in wonder.
“Look quickly” said Lucy as she showed each child a glimpse of the creature within. Y smiled and S peered.
Finally it was revealed. A bear! We practiced shouting the word bear. L and H used a big voice to say “BEAR!”.. We built up that energy and let it out by dancing and singing to the “pink fong freeze dance” A was singing perfectly and L was putting her finger to her mouth when it was time to freeze.
“Story, story, story time. Everyone sit for storytime” sang the teachers and Y.
Today's story was “we`re going on a bear hunt” by Wayne Rosein. This story is very exciting. R looked so happy as Lucy read silly voices. “Are you excited?!” she asked. “No,” I said with a smile, joking.
Unbeknownst to our little Buds explorers, Lucy had already hidden three animals around the room; a dog, a bee and a bear.
We hunted around the room for the animals, we practiced the phrases from the book “we can't go over it. We can't go under it. We have to go through it” using the big blue tunnel. The children were so excited to crawl through it. L was nervous at first but his brother S helped him go through. I was a pro at crawling in the tunnel, he showed us his cheeky grin on the other side.
Finally we saw it! A big orange smiling bear. Phew, it was soo exciting.. Time for a snack.
After snack time we tried some drumming. Next week we will have our drumming workshop so it was time to practice. Lucy showed us a simple beat on the floor with our hands. Then we used the sticks. Fast and slow, different beats. We tried to ht on the beat to a new halloween song “can you make a happy face, jack o lantern?” You can practice this at home if you'd like.
A was counting along to the beat “1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8” she said perfectly. She wasn't the only natural drummer in the room though because M was amazing. She held onto her sticks and thumped away. L and A shared the drum together.
Meanwhile Liezel took out some of our friends one by one to create our first halloween craft. We are making a pumpkin using orange paper and other materials, how fun! It's spooky season everyone!
Wow what a great and exciting day today! We hope you had an exciting day too and we are so excited to welcome you tomorrow, Buds family.
Love,
Buds
