Our Heart

Happy Tuesday!  Many thanks to Maryna who came to Flowers for our dance class. She was very impressed with how well we know the words of our dance presentations. Yay, way to go Flowers! We are very excited to show our dance steps to our dads. We are looking forward to having all our dads on February 23rd!

Please read on to hear all the adventures that we had on this terrific Tuesday!

 MORNING ACTIVITIES

We love playing pretend house and today was not an exception. Mi organized the play area to look like a house and it was noticeable how she laid blankets for each doll to sleep on. In the middle, you would find a table for the meal that their family enjoyed. As time went on, more and more friends joined her and soon, the family became a big and happy family😊A group of friends also gathered in a circle and Ma pretended to scare them. We thought Mano was a lion but then he said, “No, I’m not lion! I’m Godzilla! Wahhh!”. We just love playing pretend play!

For our craft, we continued working on our Dads Day present and oni masks for the setsubun day. We enjoyed making crafts especially if it’s for our dads! We looked at our oni masks and thought that they were the cutest oni (monster) mask ever! Gr said, “I like my monster to have lots and lots of hair!”. Ei commented, “They don’t look like monsters anymore! They look nice!”.  We are looking forward to the Oni who will visit us this year.

STORY TIME (Today is Monday by Eric Carle)

We love this storybook and were very happy to do it as a song. At the end of the story, Ei came up front and said, “Look, the chicken is alive!”. We all giggled because we are sure that we don’t eat chickens that are alive!

Ri: First you cut, then cook, and eat chicken.

Cl: My chicken is cut. My brother and I eat.

B: My mommy cut it and then I eat it.

          A: I eat karaage.

Th: My mommy take out the chicken eyeballs first.

SHORT REVIEW

Before moving on to today’s topic, we had a short review of what we have learned so far. Au remembered that “calories are the way to measure energy we get from food”. Th added that “My mommy has these kinds of vegetables (while pointing at the cabbage and green peppers). When we talked about the ways to use these calories, Hi immediately said, “We need to move! If you don’t move, you’ll be fat, fat, fat! Clothes will rip!”. Some of our friends mentioned foods that are not healthy and those that are healthy. Ma said, “but my daddy eats small chocolate everything! I only eat 3. I want to eat more but daddy eat everything!”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Is your heart a muscle?)

Before discussing today’s question of the day, we talked briefly about exercise.

Mi: We can carry heavy things, even if you a children.

Ta: Because everyone is a living thing.

H: If you exercise, that means you are using calories.

Since our question was about our heart, we tried to feel our heart by placing our hand over our chest. We said that we could feel a slow movement. Then, our teacher’s helper, Re rolled our music box and did our song, I Can Do It.

After the song, we tried to feel our heart again and shared what we felt.

Th: My heart is still slow.

Gr: Faster! My heart is going super-fast!

That’s right! We noticed that we felt our heart moved faster after doing a dance. Talking about muscles, we shared with our friends where we think we could muscle in our body.

          Cl: shoulder             Be: bottom

Mi I think that muscles are in your tummy. It feels like meat!

          Be: Mine is soft!

Ta: My tummy is not soft. Hehehe!

Well, it would be a good idea to have a little research at home about the muscles in our body. Please share what you find out tomorrow.

Going back to our question of the day, we tried to guess which body part we thought was the heart. There were 4 body parts that we see on the inside. We placed our name on the board that had a piece from a puzzle that represented the heart. It was a good try for everyone!

Sh told us that “when you close all your fingers, it is the size of your heart!”. Absolutely correct! Be added that “the blood won’t go to all your organs and then you’ll die”.

Vieda read us a book about the heart which says that our heart is a bag of MUSCLE! Moving and being active such as doing exercise, is good for our heart.

The book that our teacher read also talked about DNA and how some skills (such as rolling our tongue) are influenced by genetics. T said, “I actually have my DNA at home”. We learned a lot of interesting facts from this book about the human body. Sh said, “That book is smart!”.

We may have a lot of questions about our heart, exercise, and DNA when we go home tonight. Thank you so much to our families, for always listening and answering our questions! Sharing them in Flowers is always a delight!

Have a pleasant evening!

Love,

Flowers
