My Brother Otto
Happy Friday everyone! We had another fabulous day at school! We started our morning with some art! We worked together to finish up our Petals Class Banner! We painted the letters and decorated the frame with junk. All we needed to do was to stick our handprints on the banner! Our teachers handed us a paintbrush with glue on it and a handprint. We spread the glue onto the back of the handprint and pasted it on the banner! It was a little tricky to spread the glue and it got on our hands. We didn’t mind it though, we actually enjoyed the sticky feeling of glue on our hands! When we finished, we made the Olympic rings!
On one of our tables, we had play dough. We made shapes and numbers out of play dough. Our teachers also sat down with us and helped us count how many play dough chunks we had in front of us. On our play area, we had animal toys. We love our animals and it’s so much fun to pretend to be an animal!
We packed away our toys and had our circle time. After we danced to a few of our favorite songs, Evita read us a story called, “My Brother Otto” by Meg Ragby. It was a beautiful story about big sister Piper and her little brother Otto. The book talked about how Otto is unique and likes to do things a little differently. Just like Piper says, “Sometimes Otto may act a little differently from other kids, but he really is just a little crow that likes to play, learn, have friends, and be loved, just like me.”
J: They are best brothers.
Evita: They are playing at home! Otto likes to twirl.
I: I see cars there!
Y: Yummy pizza!
M: I twirl in my house too!
Evita: Otto only wears yellow. What is your favorite color?
J: Blue
R: Yellow
M: Pink
M: Rainbow, I like all the colors.
T: Blue!
A: I don’t have a pink backpack. I have a blue one.
Evita: Otto loves the swings! It makes Otto feel like he's flying!
R: We need to take turns.
J: I see ice cream!
A: Are we going to the park today?
Evita: Would you like to fly?
J: No
A: I like to ride airplanes.
Evita: Mommy and Daddy give kisses and tucks him in just like your mom and dad.
R: My mom and dad sing me lots of songs and read books. Sometimes we read so many books!
Evita: Can we be friends with people who are still learning to talk?
J: Yes!
M: We can play together!
After the story, we split into three groups and did a little cutting activity to help us practice how to use scissors. On a colored piece of paper, there was a face and many lines. We tried our best to use the scissors to cut along the line. Many of us were able to do it on our own, and a few of us got a little help from our teachers. After we cut the lines, we decorated the paper with collage materials. We used a lot of glue so we left our creatures outside.
We ate our snacks and then quickly got ready for the park. We played in the green area today. Before we were set free, our teachers wanted to play one game first. On Sports Day our teachers are planning a fun game called tail tag. We have been making tails out of newspapers. We put one of those tails in our back pocket and we ran off making sure no one took our tails and tried to grab our friend’s tail. It was a very tricky, but fun game! We played a few rounds of tail tag then our teachers let us play with the balls until the end of park time. We marched back to school and then had our lunch. We all fell asleep pretty quickly today, we must have been so tired from the park!
Have a fabulous evening everyone! Enjoy your weekend and see you again on Monday!
Love,
Petals
