Our classroom rules!

Happy Monday! Welcome to the start of the new week!
For this week, we are going to reinforce the Classroom Rules. We want Ohana to continue to be a safe space that encourages independence. We started the day by welcoming everyone. Two teachers were shadowing them as they changed to their shoes and unpacked their bags on their own. On our activity tables, we prepared a sensory table where they could try copying the letters A-J in the colored rice. And we also asked them to practice their pencil grip in our drawing area. Isabella drew shapes and Yuto used many colors.
For our circle time, everyone tried to sing along to some of the songs that our teacher played. We sang and danced to “Hello Song”, and “Open Shut Them” and the most requested song is “ Walking in the Jungle”. When it was time for us to sit, Evita asked everyone how to sit nicely.
Evita: Can you show me how to sit nicely?
Everyone: quietly sitting and looking at Evita.
Evita: Can we sit like this? ( sitting at the edge of the chair, rocking her chair, and sitting with her legs on the chair)
A: I sit like this on the sofa.
R: I can sit like this at home!
J: Like this?
Evita: We need to sit nicely so we won’t hurt ourselves. We are going to play a game. I would play a song and once the song stops, you all need to sit nicely. If you are not sitting nicely, you are out of the game. Do we cry if we are out of the game?
J: NO!
R: We can do it again!
Evita: A, A, Y, and R won the game for sitting nicely every time.
For the second round of the game, we did it without chairs. We discussed how we should sit on the floor and learned it would be dangerous if we extended our legs. We might accidentally trip our friends or even break our leg bone if someone steps on it.
M: Ouch! Go to the Hospital!
R: At home, nobody will step on my legs. Can we eat now?
Everybody is hungry monsters today, We patiently waited in line to wash our hands. In a flash, one by one our friends started to pack away and headed their way to read books.
After snack time, we discussed how to prepare to go to the park.
J: Walk!
Evita: Before we walk to the park, we need to prepare. What do we do first?
M: Smock and water bottle!
L: Rope!
Evita: Before holding on to the rope, we need to do 3 more things.
R: Hat!
M: Change shoes!
Evita: There is one more thing we need to do. (gesturing spraying bug spray)
Y: Bee!
R: Spray for bugs!
Evita: After we are done preparing, what do we do next?
L: Walk in the park!
Evita: Our classroom is up here, Can we fly going down?
Everyone: NO!
Evita: What do we need to do to get down? ( gesturing going down the stairs)
A and R: The stairs!
Evita: How do we go up and down the stairs safely?
J: Take steps, hold the wall!
M: No Running!
L: No pushing!
Evita: Yes, we should not run and push. We always hold the wall to be safe.
We divided the class into 3 groups. We practiced with a step stool first before going up and down the stairs. After going up and down the stairs, we read some books while waiting for the other groups to finish. Then we had our lunch. Evita reminded us that we should not play with our spoon and fork while eating.
It was a busy day, we all had to try to remember rules to make our classroom safe and more fun for all of us.
See you again tomorrow!

Love,
Petals
