Beautiful Oops!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Morning Freeplay:

We started our morning by greeting our friends and getting ready to play! Once our shoes were changed, our backpacks were in the box, and we washed our hands, we got straight to business. On our two art tables, we continued with our “PLAY” and Tanabata art projects. For our “PLAY” project we continued what we did yesterday with the finger and hand painting. There were still lots of white spaces for us to get creative on! For our Tanabata art we used shiny origami paper to cut out stars and shapes to paste on our big canvas! On our play dough table, we continued being little sculptors and used all kinds of collage materials to make something special! Today we made, soba noodles, pancakes, and animals! In our play area, we had the Lego blocks and we worked together to make a big house!

Music and Gym:

After we finished our snacks we got ready for the park. Just as we were getting ready to head out we noticed people on the streets with an umbrella, it started to rain! We weren’t sure how bad the rain was going to get so we decided to say indoors and have music and gym class! We started by dancing to some songs like, “If You’re Happy and You Know it” and “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”. Then we danced to, “Shake My Sillies Out”. We then sat down in a circle and sang our, “Good Morning” and “How Are You Today” songs.

After some fun music time, we sat down at one side of the classroom as our teachers got ready for gym class! We started by doing some stretches and basic workouts like star jumps. Then we did lots of animal movements like jumping like rabbits, crawling like crocodiles, stomping like bears, and hopping like frogs! We loved playing our favorite Gym game, The Sumo Game! We pushed the mat as hard as we could and took our teachers down! Our last activity was hanging on the monkey bar. First, we just hung on the bar and tried to keep our feet off the mat for 10 seconds. On our second try, we tried what people in Japan called, “Buta no Maruyaki (Roasted Pork). This time we had to hang on the bar with both our hands and legs! It was a little tricky, but our teachers helped support us and it felt great when we accomplished the task!

Yoga:

Hisami turned off the lights and we did some movements along with her shaker. Then we sat down and did some yoga poses. We did the Mountain, Tree, Dog, and many others. To finish our indoor activity time, Hisami had us lie down on the floor and close our eyes. She gave each of us a gentle massage which helped us calm down. It was a great relaxing time to go into our storytime.

Story and Circle Time:

Today Nimo read us, “Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg. It was a wonderful book about how we can turn “mistakes” into something beautiful. If we accidentally tear paper? We can turn it into a crocodile's mouth! Paint spill? No problem! We can turn it into an elephant! The book encouraged us to not be afraid of mistakes and be creative! As the book said, “When you think you made a mistake, think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful!”. The last page was very colorful and each of us raised our hand to name a color. Then Nimo asked us which color was our favorite:

E: Red

E: Purple

H: *Pointed at Red*

I: Red

K: Red

L: Orange

T: *Pointed at Green*

Y: Green

After sharing our favorite color to the class we washed our hands and enjoyed our lunch! Thank you all for another amazing day! Have a great evening and see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
