Our Olympic Games
Happy Friday! Today is the last day of Physical Talent / Sports week, and we ended in grand style with our official Olympic Games!
MORNING ACTIVITIES
This morning, we painted an Olympic rings banner that we could attach to the banner we made yesterday. We used blue, yellow, black, green, and red paint to make the rings. We were careful not to mix the paint and make new colors. We also signed our autographs on the bottom of the banner!
OLYMPIC GAMES
Our Olympic Games were held at Step Park Olympic Stadium. Our first event was a relay race. We split into two teams and prepared ourselves. We ran from one end of the field to the other and back. After high fiving the next person in line, they took off running!
The second event was a head-to-head sprint to see who was the fastest. Our competitive spirit was going full force!
The third event, at our request, was a sprint involving the whole class at once. We put our heads down and ran as fast as we could!
The fourth event was an endurance race. Five laps around the outside of the field. We thought that sounded like a lot, but that didn’t deter us! We were determined to give our best effort with each event!
We took a short break after that. The long race made us tired, and we were breathing heavily. We sat in a circle and drank water, while figuring out the team members for the next event, soccer!
We reminded each other of the rules like, "you can’t touch the ball with your hands unless you’re the goalkeeper." After the teams were decided, each team chose a goalkeeper. Hi and Ka were the keepers for their respective teams and did an amazing job at protecting the own goals! Not much got by the keeper’s strong hands.
The game was going back and forth quite well for a while, until some of us got pretty tired and subbed out for a break. We decided that the game would end in a tie. Both teams played hard and had a lot of fun!
Then we were able to have some free-play time and choose the games that we would like to play. Some of us played baseball, while Hi and Cameron made a makeshift basketball hoop with our ropes. It was fun to shoot the ball into the hoop, but some of us enjoyed holding the rope which opened up the basket even more.
We headed back to Ohana for our medal ceremony.
MEDAL CEREMONY
We put on our Laurel wreathes, grabbed our torch and pom poms, and headed to the podium. Our names were called one by one as we received our gold medals and took in the cheers from the crowd! We were elated to feel like champions, and it shown through our happy faces!
We shared some of our favorite things from today…
Sh: Running!
Mi: I liked soccer, because my mommy said, “I love soccer!” I love soccer with my mom.
Ca: I like running around in a circle.
Th: I wanted to run around 10 times. But that game made me tired.
Our Olympic games were a great success! We enjoyed all of the games that we played this week and especially today at Step Park!
NATIONAL ANTHEM GUESSING GAME
We learned that during the medal ceremony at the Olympics, they play the national anthem of the winner’s country. We listened to five different national anthems, and tried to guess which country it comes from.
First song:
Hi: America?
Sh: Japan! Because that’s Japanese!
H: It’s Japan!
Answer: Japan! Great job!
Second song:
Sh: Is it Israel?
Hi: I know! It’s America! Because it’s English!
Answer: America! Way to go!
Third song:
We listened to the song for a while, but couldn’t figure it out…
It was Israel’s national anthem.
Hi: Sh, you should know!
Sh: I didn’t hear it before.
Fourth song:
Hi: England?
Ka: Korea?
Answer: South Korea! Great job Ka!
Fifth song:
We were a bit puzzled and were unsure about it…
It was England’s national anthem!
Sh: Ke would know! I miss Ke!
It was fun to guess the national anthems. We had never heard most of them, so we did an amazing job figuring out where they come from.
Next week is Artistic Talent week! We will be putting our creativity and imagination to the test! We wonder what exhibits will be on display in our gallery a week from now!
Have an amazing weekend! See you on Monday!
Love,
