How Fast Can We Go?

 Making Medals

An award is usually given to individuals who do their best in practicing and performing sports. So far, we have explored the colors of the Olympic rings, what physical activities we can do with rings, and today, we explored how “fast”, “slow”, and “far” we can go.

For our “Making Medals' ' activity, we thought of having a competition of how “fast” each of us could peel off the white protective label of the double sided tape that was taped onto a round shaped cardboard. I, D, and M all lined up and waited for E’s signal of “GO!” before peeling. It was indeed a tough “race” as our little fingers took some time to scrape and peel off the white protective label. Once we successfully peeled it off, we wrapped gold foil (recycled balloons) around it and it looked like a shiny gold coin.

Since most of us have been keen on strengthening the muscles of our fingers, the “Olympic Ring” artwork was again brought out for us to continue working on. A became a “coach” to Louis in guiding him on how to successfully peel off the round stickers off the pad. He demonstrated the “scratching” technique by using the fingernails to scratch/peel off the stickers. L was rather amazed with this technique shared with him by A as it had indeed made peeling a whole lot easier for him.

How Fast Can our Cars Go

Inspired by our walks outdoors, we often notice how far vehicles can go past us. We hear our teachers say, “Whoa! That car drove by so fast, they must be in a hurry!” Together with Goh San, we re-enacted this scene by building a car out of Lego blocks and driving it around the long table.

With Goh San’s signal, we drove as “fast” and “slow” as we could. We also learned that the faster we went, the easier it was to go farther.

Water Play

To help cool off in this heat, a water station was prepared for us at the balcony. Tubs were filled with water and a variety of items such as rocks, CDs, and sponges were brought out for us to explore the concept of “heavy” and “light” as a continuation from yesterday’s topic of how strong we are. Any guesses which amongst the items we found “heavy” and “light”?

Apart from exploring the concept of “heavy” and “light”, L and M happen to chance upon “sticking” CDs onto the metal table. They found out that water worked like glue in sticking CDs! R had a grand time getting into the tubs to make splashes by stomping his feet. N was in complete awe when bath bombs were diluted in water.

Circle Time

For Circle Time, we all sat on a cushion to remind us of the round shape of the Olympic Rings. To the catchy beat of Johnny Yukon’s “Moment”, we spread our arms and legs as far and wide as we could.

We read Eric Carl’s “Do You Want to Be My Friend?” and guessed which tail belongs to which animal. We also asked the question, “Does this animal move fast or slow?” To help us in answering this question, Erika gave us hints such as the weight of the animal that could possibly affect its speed.

This week has indeed been speeding by quickly!

We hope everyone has been having a great week so far.

Love,

Buds Class Children
