Throwing & Catching

Happy Tuesday! It has been a wonderful day in Flowers Class!

MORNING ACTIVITIES

When we arrive at school each day, one of our morning jobs is to answer the question of the day, which our teachers pose to us. Today, with Hi's and Au’s help, we included a second, honorary question of the day!

“Do you know where the sock is?”

Yesterday while cleaning up, we realized that one of the socks to the stool legs was missing! We received the stools, which have various plushy animal covers on them, earlier this year and we love sitting on them. We were told by Shelley that if we cannot find the sock, then maybe the stools will find a new home in Petals class.

We needed to show Shelley that we are responsible and take care of all the things in Flowers class. Even though we had no luck finding it yesterday, we took it upon ourselves to find it today! We spent much of the morning looking everywhere we possibly could, but to no avail. We couldn’t find it. Shelley even proposed that a prize be given to the person who finds it!

As our search continued, Liezel checked the inside of the toy dinosaur box, and there it was, the missing sock! Thank you for finding it Liezel! We wonder what your prize will be..

We promise to take better care of our things and make sure our stool legs always have their socks!

TODAY’S CRAFT

This morning we began making gold medals for our Olympic Games! We used shiny gold origami, which we folded in the shape of a medal. We attached ribbon to the top so that we can wear it around our necks. We already wanted to wear it today, but we’ll save it for the medal ceremony!

During afternoon quiet time, we made a special craft for our dads. It’s a surprise, but we hope you will love it!

CIRCLE TIME

We were joined by a few friends today who weren’t here yesterday, so we began our circle time by letting them know what we talked about.

Sh: Olypmic!

Hi: What’s Olympic?

Th: Other people fighting other country. Group of people fighting together from America and Australia.

Be: People compete with each other in sports like soccer and races. People compete with everybody else.

Sh: I know sports, like running!

That leads perfectly into our question of the day, which Au read for us, “Do you like to run?”

Gr: I like to run!

Ka: If you want to run, you have to wait a little bit. If you run with lots of food, it will hurt.

Th: Last time I was running, and daddy was too slow to catch me!

Ty: My daddy is not fast.

We learned that many of the events in the Olympics involve running, and there are some events that are only about running. There are some races for short distances, long distances, and even team racing. In those events, we can watch the fastest people in the world!

Sh: I can be more faster!

Hi: If you run everyday, you will be faster than everyone. My brother practice basketball and sometimes he run.

Be: In baseball, there is running, but not very much. Just like if you get a home run, then you need to run around.

We think the people who compete in the Olympics must run everyday so that they can get faster. We think that we can be the fastest too! Maybe we’ll get a chance to see who is fast in our class during our Olympic games!

TODAY’S GAME

Today we tested our throwing and catching skills. We lined up in two rows while facing each other. Using one ball, we passed the ball down the line in a zigzag pattern, while calling out the name of the friend we threw the ball to. At first, we struggled a bit, because some of us were not giving their full attention.

Au told us, “When I play the drums, my teacher says I have to concentrate!” Let’s try our best to concentrate on the ball!

From that point, we focused in and passed the ball from friend to friend while only dropping the ball a couple of times! Thanks for motivating us Au!

Then we formed pairs for a more challenging game! We started out close together and passed the ball back and forth to each other, taking one step back after each throw/catch. Whichever team took the most steps would win! In the end, there was a three team tie with three steps each, Au & Sh, Ka & Ri, and Hi & Hi! Great job!

Like yesterday, we also tried to think of ways to improve the game to make it more fun or interesting. What can we do?

Th: Someone can stand up and someone can sit down.

Au: The person on the right can throw it and give it and put the ball somewhere, and get it to the same person and then continue doing it.

Ka: You can pass the ball, then each team will give it to the other team.

Hi: The people stand up and they hide it, then the other people find it.

Th: Like hide and seek!

Re: Pass over your head!

We decided to give Re’s improvement to the game a try! She lined us up and told us what to do. Although it was hard to throw the ball without looking at the other person, we did manage to catch the ball a few times! It was fun! Most of us enjoyed the changes to the game, but some of us thought it was too difficult.

Our homework for today is to think of our own game that we can play as a class tomorrow! We’re excited to see what games we come up with!

Have a nice evening! See you tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers XOXO
