Dancing with Nature
Finger Painting Graffiti
What’s one of the best ways to learn for our age group? Through messy sensory play! To culminate our week on “DANCE”, we did a last touch on our group graffiti artwork by using our fingers to swirl around while listening to soothing music.
The tips of our pointing finger followed along the textured lines we made earlier in the week using oil pastels and crayons.
R was keen on observing M doing this activity and would give “comments” here and then by pointing out on lines that she may have missed. M, on the otherhand, had fun covering her fingers and hands with paint.
Playing Musical Instruments
Another way to learn for our age group is through music and movement. Dancing becomes a whole lot more fun and lively when music is involved. We are happy that our teachers play a wide variety of music genres for us to explore.
A and N brought out musical instruments and played it in sync with music that reminds of the conga dance.
Circle Time
For Circle Time, we were each given a cushion to sit on to do work on our balance and do some stretching exercises… just like what professional dancers do! We lifted our legs as high as we could and stretched them out as wide as we can to see how flexible we are!
We read the book, “Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp” by Carol Shield and the words were read to us in a rhythmic pattern to encourage us to be engaged in an interactive story telling by responding with a “ROAR!” or a stomp. I was on beat, bopping her head to the rhythm and waving her hand up in the air when she saw how the dinosaurs danced in the party.
After partying and grooving like the dinosaurs, we all settled down to relax to the soothing sound of a classical rendition of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars”.
Outdoor Play
We are grateful for a beautiful sunny morning after several days of downpours this week. For us to fully enjoy being outdoors, we visited the temple garden to play under the shades of the tall gingko tree and bushes.
E asked us to take notice of how the branches would move when a strong gust of wind would blow pass by it… it seemed to us that the leaves were rattling which made us think that it might be similar to the movement of running or shaking.
We hope everyone has had a great week so far!
Love,
Buds Class Children
