What is hip-hop?

MORNING ACTIVITIES

Today, our schedule was a bit special. To avoid getting wet from the rain, teachers decided to go to the Step Park as soon as everybody arrived. While we were waiting for our friends to come, the boys had a special craft to do. Remember how yesterday the girls from the class made their own hula skirts? Today the boys have got to create their own surfing boards! To do so, we used yoga mats that were shaped like surfing board, and we glued colored popsicle sticks to personalize them. They look so cool, now we’re ready to ride the waves! It was really fun to design them but since the glue gun might be too hard to use for us, teachers glued the sticks where we wanted to put them! At the same time, some other friends were busy preparing food and some of them were playing with dinosaurs!

After everyone arrived, we headed to Step Park to play. The weather was not really sunny, but we had a good time playing with friends from Petals and Buds classes! We learned to be cautious around younger friends, but we still did a lot of funny activities: some friends were running around, others were pretending to be policeman who were putting criminals into jail, then as we were heading back to school, we were cautious on how to safely cross the streets.

CIRCLE TIME

We started our circle time a little bit different today by dancing! In fact, we practiced the hula dance and the ballet again but also learned how to dance hip-hop because it was related to our Question of the Day! It was really tiring but moving, jumping around on a music rhythm is so much fun and good for our bodies. We were following the moves of the teachers at first but then we’ve got to improvise on our own!

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Everyone was so thirsty after the dances that we all went to drink water before reforming the circle. As soon as we did, the teachers asked us our Question of the Day: “do you like hip-hop”. However, we did realize that most of our friends didn’t know what kind of dance it was. So, the teachers explained that it was like the last one we just did and, without knowing it, everyone did dance it and wanted to express their impressions on it:

G: I like it a little bit.

S: I like it!

C: I like hip-hop dance.

R:

M: No! But mommy don’t like to dance with me.

T: I did like hip-hop dancing but it makes me tired.

C: Do you know the movie ___? It’s a movie, the movie there was a guy name B. My brother and sister and my mom like hip-hop.

K: Yes! You move so much that’s why you have to drink lots of water, then you have more energy.

A: I like the dance hip-hop; I like everything!

S: I like hip-hop!

But what is hip-hop? How do you dance it, what part of your body do you move?

R: Everything!

K: Legs!

H: Hands, tummy because we jump.

A: Everything!

B: Arms!

R: Muscles too!

T: My body, but it makes me tired.

M: Tippytoes.

K: Your muscles get tired.

Then the teachers asked us where hip-hop is from?

(instantly) B: America!

That’s right B! Does someone in your family know how to dance it ?

B: My daddy!

G: Graham and Daddy go to dance floor!

T: My mommy know how to dance hip-hop!

M: My daddy.

A: My mommy and daddy don’t know but I teach them, and they can remember how to do it.

T: My mommy know how to dance hip-hop, my daddy too.

K: Daddy don’t know, just mommy.

T:

S: Nobody, only I know.

R: Mommy dance!

R: I do make-up and do dress!

H: We go to ballet show but we need to buy tickets!

And that was it for our discussion on hip-hop. We did learn a lot about dances around the world this week. It’s always nice to discover new things and broaden our horizons. Now we need to get ready for tomorrow’s show !

See you tomorrow for more adventures!

Lots of Love,

Flowers.
