May 26, 2023: May I PLEASE Have a Cookie?

It was such a treat to have a new face in Buds - Brandon was here to share his great talent in playing the guitar this morning!  At first we were all a little bit nervous around a new teacher but it didn’t take long before we all gathered around him introducing our unique selves :)  We also had a wonderful celebration for L’s birthday!  Here is how the day went by…

PLANTING IN POTS

It is now a while ago that we filled pots with soil and seeds.  We watered the pots whenever we had a chance while we waited, waited and waited…Until one day, we saw a sprout shooting up and another and another :)  Now that most pots have grown some sprouts, we, Buds gardeners, transferred the sprouts into little bigger pots together with Tamara. There were a couple of steps to follow.  First, we placed a net at the bottom of each pot.  Second, we placed some pumice and charcoal for the first layer.  Third, we added soil for the second layer together with pieces of compost.  Fourth, we carefully transferred a block of soil with shooting sprouts and added some more soil to cover up any naked roots.  Lastly, we sprayed some water and made sure the soil was nice and damp.  Many friends crowded this table and O, E, R and M especially loved using their senses - touching, smelling, observing, hearing and sometimes tasting (!) - to experience the fun activity here!

MAKING PLAYDOUGH

By now, we are well experienced playdough makers!  Some friends enjoyed the measuring part while others liked the mixing part and we ALL loved the playing part!  Once the play dough was ready to go, we all gathered around the table where so many interesting ideas were shared :)  K, W and J suggested making breakfast for Brandon and we all agreed that “sausages” are the best part so we made lots of yummy sausages to serve for him!  We hope he enjoyed his breakfast in Buds :9  B helped Erika make a special cupcake ready for the party!

TRANSLUCENT BLOCKS + ANIMAL FIGURINES + TRAIN TRACKS

A and D explored through a collection of animal figurines choosing their favorite animals and enjoying imaginative play.  On the side S, N and L discovered the fun in looking through the translucent blocks.  How does the world look like through a green screen, how about red or yellow?  We also hid an animal behind the screen and guessed which animal was making the sound and we made songs along the way…”The snake is slithering; the crocodile is snapping; the monkey is squeaking.”  This is when L noticed a pretty decoration in the background and looked at it through a yellow block.  The train tracks are easily the most popular toys in Buds.  Recently we are doing such a great job collaborating to put the train tracks together - it is more fun when we run the trains together with our friends -and T enjoyed pushing his yellow engine.

CIRCLE TIME

We showed Brandon how to do “Shake Your Sillies Out” moves as we all gathered in a circle.  In return, he played us one of our favorite songs, “The Wheel on the Bus” as we went up and down the road.  Once we were settled sitting down on the floor, the teachers explained to us that there were some guests waiting outside the red curtains.  When L walked up to open the curtains, there appeared L’s mom, N and his dad, R!!!  We sang our Good Morning song to greet each other :)  “Why are N and R here today?”  “It’s L’s birthday!”  Yes, and when celebrating a birthday we love to start by singing, “If You’re Happy and You Know It!”  We had so many great ideas for some great moves!  Party also means fun and we like to have a little game so we turned on Jazon Mraz’s “I Feel Like Dancing” and we played a freeze dance!

Phew…After all the shaking, twirling and jumping it was time to sit down for some storytime.  First it was N who read a very sweet story “Little Blue Truck Leads the Way” by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry about a kind hearted blue truck who helped the other trucks, buses and cars in a very busy city.  Next, R took out another book called “May I Please Have a Cookie?” by Jennifer E. Morris about a little crocodile who learns how to ask for a cookie nicely.  What’s more, N and R had prepared the same book for us to take home so that we can all learn how to say, “PLEASE!”  Now it was time for us to give something in return.  K stood up and handed the birthday card.  We were still missing something for the party?   Hmm…a birthday cupcake!  We all sang “Happy Birthday” as L blew a wish ;)  One, two, three…Happy Birthday!!!!

At the park, we had so much fun playing with the hoops in so many different ways.  Just like the story, we even tried out the phrase, “May I please have…?” for when we wanted something from another friend :)

We hope you had a fun-filled Friday!

Love,

Buds Class Children
