We Are Designers!

Happy Wednesday! We have been having an amazing day in Flowers Class!

MORNING ACTIVITIES

This morning, we continued painting our self-portraits by looking into a mirror as we painted what we saw. We played Connect Four and had fun trying to get four in a row before our opponent could; our attempts at blocking our opponent from the same goal were challenging! We also played with dominoes by placing them around the table in interesting patterns, while not accidentally knocking them over until we were ready!

PARK TIME

After snack time, we headed for Step Park. But much like last week, we took a right turn at the crossing, in a different direction. We wondered where we were going! Au asked, “Are we going to ambulance station again?” Da said, “Maybe fire station!”

That's right! We were walking in the direction of Azabu Fire Station! Although we were just there, we had a couple of friends who were not with us, and we wanted to take their picture in the firefighter cutout in front of the station. This time, unfortunately, we were unable to talk to a fire fighter, but it was okay. We enjoyed looking at the fire trucks and miniature replicas displayed in the case again!

We also had some friends who couldn’t join us yesterday for our graduation photo shoot at Arisugawa Park. Instead of making the long trek there again, we decided to take pictures at Honkōji, a local temple. We found a beautiful tree to pose in front of while wearing the graduation cap and gown. We also took some group photos while making silly faces!

After those detours, we finally reached Step Park, and to our surprise, we were the only ones there. We voted on whether we would play in the green area or the slides. It was a landslide in favor of the slides! We played and had fun for a while, but it was hot today! We were sweating and tired before too long and ready to go back to Ohana!

GRADUATION PRACTICE

For today’s graduation practice, Maryna came to our class for another rehearsal of our dances! As always, we enjoyed dancing with our friends as we tried to get the moves down. We attempted to finalize our floor positions today, but there may be a few more adjustments to make before the date is here. We're almost ready!

CIRCLE TIME

Yesterday’s topic motivated us to continue the same discussion today. We were impressed with how much Co knows about design and learned a lot from her! Let’s keep talking about designers!

What does a designer do?

Sh: A designer make shirts. I make a shirt! I take a shirt and paint it with a lots of color.

Ka: Designer does make clothes and other things you can uses like bags and shoes.

Sh was wearing the shirt that he made himself. Can we consider him a designer? Are there any designers in our class?

Au: Maybe Co and Sh!

Co: I’m a designer! Sometimes people design pictures or clothes. They design shoes or they make skirt. I make skirt by myself! We did this color, I put it in the machine. Mommy have the skirt, but it was small, so she gave it to me.

We had some questions and comments about Co’s dress!

Da: This dress is beautiful!

Hi: How do you make the sparkly?
Co: We have string inside the hole. I tie it, but it was small.

Be: Is there like a button to plug it?
Co: There’s one plug to the machine.

How did you decide to make this dress?

Co: I have a book to see the dress and I decide this dress from the book. One more is skirt, one more is clothes, socks, and funny tights.

Re: How you make this (ruffles)?
Co: We have machine that you put in.

Co told us that her daddy is planning to come to Flowers class to talk more about this! We tried to think of some questions that we could ask him.

Hi: How they paint a t-shirt with out painting our hands?
Da: Can you paint a picture like that one? (painting on our wall)
Be: What machine do you use?

So far, we’re curious about how clothing gets its color, if designers know how to paint pictures, and what machines they use to help them. We’re excited for the opportunity to learn more about designers!

We hope you all have a wonderful evening and extended weekend! Tomorrow is the beginning of PTC!

Love,
Flowers XOXO
