The Waters of Planet Earth + S, our Story Teller of the Day

Tracing Flowers in An Upright Position

Yesterday's images of flowers from old packages were used as a template for today’s tracing activity. This activity aims to have us pay close to attention to the details of the flowers such as its buds and petals. It is also a new fine motor skills exercise as we are tasked to use writing instruments in an upright position. Together with Goh San, here’s what happened in this station:

  1. R remembered that butterflies like flying over flowers. He thought of getting a toy dragonfly and pretended it flew around the activity’s area.

  2. A, T, and S demonstrated their skills of being detail oriented as they verbally shared what they saw inside the flowers. They drew tiny circles that resemble the middle of the flowers.

  3. M looked pretty amused with the beautiful set up of this activity and enjoyed the task of being able to draw up and down the screens.

  4. When N saw the flowers in this station, she immediately pointed out her new indoor shoes which also had floral prints!

Adding Land on top of the Waters for EARTH DAY

In line with our ongoing celebration of Earth Day, a large sheet of blue paper was spread out on a table. Our teachers asked us what we thought the color blue could symbolize…? We gave several answers such as our friends’ blue colored pants, bag, etc. which were all correct answers. We were given hints… it was something that we could drink, swim with, and we get wet when we touch/feel it… it’s WATER!

There were “patches of empty land” drawn on the sheet of paper. Together with Yuri and Nanako, E, I, S, N, and K filled the patch with green land by spreading glue, crumpling strips of green colored tissue paper and filling in within the small patches of land.

The output looked like a world map!

The WATERS of Planet Earth

Our planet earth consists of both land and water. Today we gave a special focus on water as we have been exploring land through flowers the past few days. A pond like setting was set up using the blue tactile beams and a sheer, slippery blue cloth.

Together with Erika, S, W, and R engaged in an imaginative pretend play of swimming in the blue pond. Sunay said that we had to be careful as ”walking on water” is slippery. Ayaka pretended to be floating on water. Wren brought in toy fishes from the “Catch A Fish” station and said that it preferred to swim in the water instead of being on the sensory table. When R took out one beam from the pond, S and W “panicked” as the water (blue cloth) could spill all over the room!

Apart from the blue pond set up, a “Catch A Fish” station was already prepared for us to work on our fishing skills. W took this opportunity to communicate with E by telling him the English translation of the sea creatures available. In return, E shared with W how to say “What is this?” in Mandarin.

During Snack Time, K proudly shared that her snack was dried fish! She shared that her dried fish also swam around the water before it landed inside her snack box.

Circle Time

To start our Circle Time we all danced to Jason Mraz’ “I Feel Like Dancing”. A, N, and S took the lead in sharing the moves that everyone should follow along to.

As we settled down, Keys & Copper “Pack It In”, K took charge of leading the class in settling down by showing us different moves to relax the body such as patting our heads, our tummies, our shoulders, and our cheeks.

In line with our topic of the day, “The WATERS of Planet Earth” and to prepare us for World Book Day, Marcus Pfister’s “The Rainbow Fish” was our story book for the day. S volunteered to read us the story by telling us how he interpreted the pictures from the book. We ended with a cliffhanger as we had to pause on the page wherein the Rainbow Fish went to visit the dark octopus that had a deep voice. What could the Rainbow Fish possibly need from the octopus? We will find out tomorrow!

Outdoor Play

Yesterday, several of us requested a trip to the temple gardens. This morning our teachers granted our wish as we headed towards the temple for our outdoor play. Before we were allowed to let go of the rope, our teachers gave us several reminders:

  1. To use our gentle voices while playing

  2. To use our gentle hands when touching the plants

  3. To place back the stones we picked up to where it belongs afterwards

During today’s outdoor play, we explored the plants and trees that make up our planet Earth. R was so glad to have worn a helmet as he experimented knocking it on a low branch. N took the role of leading us to run around the temple garden while W & K were assigned Line Leaders as we gathered to head back to school.

We hope you all are having a great Wednesday so far!

Love,

Buds Class Children
