Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Today was the second day of our week-long Earth Day celebration. We talked about doing one thing that we felt is a way to show our love and care for our planet Earth. Yesterday was Meatless Monday, and today was about something that begins with the /Tt/ sound. Yes, it’s about the lights in the classroom. We looked around the classroom and paused for a moment. Then, we said, “Turn off the Lights Tuesday!”.  Speaking about our lights…

            Au: What about kitchen?

            Hi Bathroom!

Re: Today this side, tomorrow this side (lights off). Nobody here, but lights not off I will be like hmm???

We agreed that we will turn off the lights in areas in the room when no one is using them. For example, if we are doing our circle time, we decided that we will turn off the lights on the other side of the room (near the balcony).

What about tomorrow? It’s Wednesday, ___________. Who would like to guess?

            Da: Water!
           Hi: No water.

Ri: When no water, everyone want to drink. Water, how we do?

H It’s not water bottle. It’s another one (kitchen tap).

           An: Because toilet flush.

Au: It’s Wednesday Water Bottle Day. Every time we can drink water.

D: How we gonna flush if we no water.

Re Just toilet and flush when you do it, you gonna flush and the poo poo gonna not fluid.

A: My toilet, I don’t do flush and still.

Be: You can get a bucket and fill it with water, and you can put it in the toilet.

Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. Let’s find out tomorrow how we can take care of our earth in terms of water.

To continue our Earth Day celebration, we sang a song that we used to sing. It goes like this, “Reduce, reuse, recycle is very easy to do”. We know this song very well but have not tried writing the word by ourselves. So, we gave it a try! WE DID IT! RDUS, RIUS, RISAIKUL

What does reduce mean? Da and Be said it is “we have paper, and we throw it to the bin”. An said it meant paper while Au thought it meant garbage. We looked at a book and tried to check what reduce meant. By looking at the pictures, we believed it meant to have less garbage. For example, we went to shop in the supermarket or any store. Where do we put the things, we bought?

            Be: In the basket.

D: You have a bag and you put the things inside.

            Au: Hold it in hand.

What if we don’t have a bag with us?

            Be: In plastic bag

Re: If you have a car, then you can carry it.

            B: Eco bag

Re You don’t have a car in back, you can buy one by one. Go back your home and keep it.

Hi: We can buy a bag and we can throw it in the garbage and the truck will take it.

We explored more about the idea of taking an eco-bag with us. Vieda showed her backpack and eco-bag in its pocket.

            Ri My mommy have it!
Ke: My mommy have it, too!

Hi: My mommy bag is Miffy.

Sh: For me and my family, always use plastic bags.

            Be: That’s so sad.

We talked about how sea animals get hurt because they mistake plastic bags for their food. Hi said, “Sometimes fish is eat (plastic bags)”. Ke sounded worried and said, “Tummy is ouchie!”. Then Da said, “If fish eat it, then no fish for the people to eat”. An shared what she thought about a picture that we looked at. She said, “The fish is eating the plastic”. On another picture, Sh noticed something and said, “It’s (plastic bag) in his neck!”.  We felt sorry to learn that sea animals get hurt because of plastic bags. We want to help with what we can. Re had a very brilliant idea. With her eyes lit up, she said, “What if we have everyday Earth Day in Flowers!”. We could not agree more! Let’s show our love to our planet Earth every day. We can do this😊

Have a lovely evening! Please remember to wear your Ohana T-shirt tomorrow!

 Love,

Flowers XOXO
