Recycle!
Happy Thursday everyone! We started our morning by continuing our week-long Earth Day art project! Yesterday we used paint and stamps to make designs on our poster, today we used our hands to paint the earth! We used brown for the mountains, blue for the water, yellow for the deserts, and green for the forests! We chose which color paint we wanted on our hands then left our handprints in the middle of the paper! Tomorrow will be the last step before we complete our poster and our teachers told us we are in for some magic! We are so excited to see what is going to happen! For our morning free play time, we played with the trains and kinetic sand for sensory play! We really loved the feeling when the sand ran in between our fingers!
We had a slightly early snack so we could be ready for Maryna’s dance class! We enjoyed grooving to our favorite tunes! After our fun dance time, we gathered into a circle to talk a little bit about recycling.
Nimo: What is this?
R: The trash bin.
Nimo: What do we put here?
T: Food, like apples and lettuce.
R: That’s burnable.
Nimo: What happens when something burns?
T: They turn into smoke.
We then learned that burnable trash is put into the fire then they turn into ash which can be used for other things. We put things like plastic in the unburnable so we can recycle them.
Petals: Recycle?
To learn more about recycling we read the book, “Clean Up!” by Nathan Bryson and Dapo Adeola. The story was about a girl who visited her grandparent's house and noticed all the trash on the beach. With the help of other people, they cleaned the beach up and turned the pile of plastic into cool-looking fish bins for trash!
Nimo: Do you remember when we reused trash for our art?
Petals Yeah!
R: I can use so many things to make something
Nimo: Do we put Plastic in burnable?
Petals No!
T: We don't mix it.
If we properly separate our trash, they go where they need to and someone at the garbage factory might be able to turn our plastic waste into something new!
After our circle time, we got ready for the park and had a great time sliding down the giant slide! The sun was blazing hot today! Starting tomorrow we will have to remember to put our hats and sunscreen on!
Have a lovely evening and we will see you again tomorrow!
Love,
Petals
