Saying Goodbye and Trees

We love birthday parties and always look forward to it! We just had one yesterday, which really made us very happy and excited. Ka who missed it, asked Cameron, “Who put on the birthday crown on the birthday people? How about the birthday cards, who gave it to them?”. That’s how we love celebrating our birthdays. There’s another party that we have, which makes us both excited and a little sad. That’s a goodbye party which we call “See You Again Party”. A, you have been like a big sister and an awesome friend to us! We love you and will miss you so much! Have a safe flight back to Boston and we hope to see you again!

 MORNING ACTIVITIES

We started to work on a new project to commemorate Earth Day next week. This time, we used marbles placed in a box filled with green and blue paint. We placed a piece of white paper and then held the box and moved it sideways as much as we could so the marbles would roll around. Au commented, “Wow, I think we can call this a racing painting. It’s not a marbling painting!”. After a few times moving the box, we were so surprised to see how the paper looked like! It was an awesome marble artwork. Liezel said that this was just the beginning of our Earth Day craft. We can’t wait to see how this craft will turn out!

We enjoyed pretend play in the library area. Old mobile phones and dressing up have been big favorites during free play. R and An had fun changing into different costumes as they played. Hi picked out a mobile phone and said,” This phone is not real. It’s a toy. Once upon a time it was real, but we take out the denpa so it’s toy now!”. Ra likes to play with the old phone as well and enjoys pretending to flip through the screen.

A’s See-You-Again-Party

We are so glad that A and Ky (her mom) came to say, “see you again”. A told us that she and her family are going to get on the airplane at Narita airport to go back to Boston. We started our party by singing our “Hello _____, Ohayo Gozaimasu”.  It’s always to hear how our friends and teachers feel. We turned to A and asked how she was feeling today. She answered, “A little bit sad but excited because I’m going to see Mana again!”.

 Vieda: Who is Mana?

A: It’s my dog! It’s a Rottweiler, Pug, and Beagle.

Ke: My obachan is in Niigata.

 A: Oh, your obachan!
 Ke: Obachan is dog?

  A: Nooo!

Vieda: How do you get to Boston?

 Hi: Airplane

A: I go to Azabu airport. Oh, Narita!
C: I go to American airport, too!

A: It’s my last day. So, if you wanna say anything, you gotta say it now.

So, here we go:

            Hi: I love you!

            Ke: I love you!
            A I love you!
            Au: I miss you!
            R: I love you!
            K: I’ll miss you!
            C: I like you!
D: Which days you gonna stay in Boston?

Take care, A, As, and Ky! We will miss you and hopefully, we can see you again!

STORY TIME (unicorns Don’t Like Rainbows by Mike Byrne)

Thank you so much for sharing this book with us, Au. We love unicorns, so we read the book again. The book made us think about how we feel when we are different from others, and at the same time how to treat others who are different from us. It made us ask this question, is it okay to like another color than your friend? A said, “Yes because everyone is different”. It reminded us about an important thing that we learned before ---- it’s okay to be different! As we moved along the story, we heard the word “karaoke” which we were not sure what the meaning was. Ke raised his hand and said, “I know karaoke. It’s house and you play and sing!”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do trees have same shapes and sizes?)

Br and An said “Yes!”. A added, “Yes because coconut trees are the same. I saw coconut trees in Okinawa”. We looked at a book about trees. D said, “I know the shape of the trees --- circle!”. Then, on other pages, we saw some interesting things but didn’t know what they were.

Au: I think this is chocolate.

Co: It’s a kind of chocolate. It melt in your mouth. Inside have a cookie or coconut. I don’t know.

K: I buy that chocolate and go Niigata.

Our teacher told us that what we were looking at are seeds. We saw that seeds come in different sizes, colors, and shapes.  We wondered whether chocolate could turn into a tree. Co replied, “Sometimes that happens. My grandma and grandpa do that!”. It will be interesting to check if this really happens! The thought of it makes us excited because we like chocolate😊

K saw a picture of a growing tree and said, “First the leaves is like a baby and then it comes out”. Da noticed the other tree didn’t have leaves on them. He said, “Maybe because it’s winter!”. When An heard that, she shared her idea. She said, “Maybe inside there’s leaves”. Ka took a closer look and said, “First it lies a small seed inside and then the leaf comes out”. Ke saw something that he thought was a flower.

We also saw a bird called the woodpecker. D taught us how to say it in Portuguese. He said, “It’s picker pow!”. Ka thought that it must be looking for worms. As we were about to finish our discussion, we noticed things that are under the ground, and which are connected to the tree. We think they are strings. What do you think are they? Let’s leave it as our homework and share our ideas tomorrow!

Have a restful evening!

Love,

Flowers
