Be gentle... there may be baby birds inside the egg shakers
Baby Birds inside Egg Shakers
This morning had such lovely weather that a whole lot of us went out to the balcony to play with the sensory station. In this station were yoga mat strips, floral leis, toy insects, kitchen rack, and egg shakers.
With Erika facilitating, we pretended that the strips of yoga mat were worms that could loop through the kitchen rack. W, G, K, and N worked on their fine motor skills by looping and ended up making a weave like design!
A few of us started to throw egg shakers on the floor. Oops! We need to be gentle with our items in class! To help us understand this concept, we were told that baby birds might be sleeping inside the eggs. Instantly, we used our gentle hands and took care of the egg shakers.
Adding Stickers to Abstract Flowers with Yuri
Yesterday's plastic sheet that was used to trace flowers was cut into smaller pieces. Together with Yuri and Shelley, we worked on our fine motor skills by peeling off stickers and sticking it on the plastic to form flowers.
N, I, A, T, and J all did a great job in decorating the flowers.
Finger Painting with Goh San
Inspired by the vibrant colors of the blooming flowers around the neighborhood, we used watercolors to do finger painting together with Goh San.
K, G, and O made such interesting patterns by making dots and lines.
Box Play
W and N were the main facilitators of today’s box pretend play. Both of them explored the concept of size by wondering who amongst us could fit inside which type of box.
Rolling Cushions and Moving Around the Classroom
When The Champ’s “Tequila” was played, N immediately thought of the idea of rolling cushions around the room due to its catchy beat. Following his lead, all of us rolled cushions around with the older ones showing the younger ones how to roll.
Circle Time
For Circle Time, we did a recap on how to say “Hello!” in different languages. Our teachers are amazed that we are consistent in giving the right answers when asked how to say “Hello” in Egypt, India, China, France, and Brazil! (Dear parents, you can ask us at home! 🙂
Since we have a special focus on The Americas this month, we asked G (who’s originally from North America) how people in her country greet one another. She remembered the song we sang when reading the book, “Hello, World” wherein the lyrics go… “In America, we say HELLO!” and said that in her country, they say “HELLO” to greet one another.
After learning how to greet people in North America, Erika asked us to look at our world map and shared that there are TWO AMERICAS… North America and South America! We learned that Mexico and Brazil (which are included in the book, “Hello, World) were located in South America and had a different way of saying, “Hello!”
An upbeat Brazilian song was played to gradually introduce to us the culture in South America when G suddenly asked, “How about a song from North America?” Hmmm… what is a song from North America? We asked Georgia and she answered, “Let It Go!” Hence, all the little ladies were delighted to hear this song and started twirling around. It is pretty funny to note that the gentlemen laid on one corner and played with dinosaurs. 🙂
Outdoor Play
We went to the park together with Petals Class this morning. It was a great experience playing and running around with them while out at the green area of Step Park.
We hope everyone has had a wonderful week and see you all again next week!
Love,
Buds Class Children
