Animals Everywhere!

If You Go Looking for Animals in the Colorful Night Safari

Inspired by one of the most requested books to be read “If You Go Walking in Tiger Wood” by Alan Durant, last week’s group art process piece of “Colorful Night Safari” is now ready to be viewed with another light with the help of “eye” stickers.

With Kiki facilitating this station, we had to “think out of the box” in imagining what animals could be formed out of the colorful strips of paper. For our older friends, this was to further enhance their ability to use their prior knowledge (how an animal looks like) to find a connection with an abstract, new concept (Colorful Night Safari artwork). For our younger friends, the activity was to build a stronger connection with them by identifying colors and touching the artwork’s texture.

K found giraffes, elephants and one lion

G found a LOT of animals that she could make her very own zoo!

S mostly found cats while Norbert found a snake and fed it a piece of rock

L saw that artwork had a lot of “eye” stickers on it and pointed to his own eyes

S focused on sticking as much eye stickers as he could on the entire piece

Wildlife Animals Sensory Play

The other table also had a similar theme of wildlife animals yet was more “younger friends” friendly in the sense that it involved a lot of different sensory materials such as wooden logs, wooden chips, shredded cardboard, and toy animals to stimulate their senses. For our older friends, this station was to encourage them to make a story and narrate their play for others to listen to.

A wondered if giraffes could perhaps fly by floating it up in the air

Based on the photos, can you guess what story we could be sharing?

A Very Busy Dress Up Corner

Big thanks to Shelley for her great idea of giving us a dress up corner because it does a wonderful job in bringing out our creativity and opportunities to learn how to take in social cues such as sharing and waiting for a turn to wear a sought out costume.

S is a big Disney princess fan. When she saw a princess costume, she immediately asked if she could wear it. K, upon seeing it, wanted to wear the costume too. Yet after sharing the fact that S requested it first and that she could either find another costume or opt to wait, K thought of an even better idea by helping S put on a crown to complete her costume!

W opted to wear a gray wolf hat. He said that he was a nice wolf that instead of always being hungry, he was a nice wolf that served tamago (egg) dishes to friends.

K enjoys taking dibs on the “knight in shining armor” costume yet is flexible to spice her look once in a while by trying on different head wear to go along with it. She wore fuzzy bear ear muffs and pretended to be a bear and then agreed to have a scarf tied around her head that made her look like a mashup of the vibrant colorful culture of Africa and the medieval culture of Europe.

Y felt so strong and proud once he had the Spiderman costume on. He went around the room “saving the world” by playing together with friends.

K opted to wear the Peter Pan costume and “flew around” the room together with Spiderman.

A, who wore a soccer player attire, joined Peter Pan and Spiderman in their kitchen adventures!

M who wore an all pink outfit looked great when she wore the pink bunny ears headband

Circle Time

We had a back to back dance off to kickstart our Circle Time in an energetic mood!  We choreographed our dance moves to the songs “Better Days” by NEIKED, “Iko Iko” by The Dixie Cups and “Tequila” by The Champs.

For our morning roll call, we were each given a block when we were able to guess whose name was being asked for by just being given the first syllable of the name.

After everyone had a piece of block, Erika thought of “testing” our patience by giving us a pair of eye stickers one by one. We all had to wait until one of us was able to successfully peel off the sticker and stuck it on the block.  N did a great job in waiting for her turn while I appreciated Kiki’s help in peeling off the stickers.

Can you guess what we said our blocks looked like when eye stickers were placed on it?

Outdoor Play

We also enjoyed the beautiful warm weather this morning during our Outdoor Play. Our teachers were so proud of us when we waited patiently for another school to vacate the green area. We didn’t want our teachers to keep on singing to entertain us so we just bent down to scribble on the sand to pass time.

We hope all of you are having a fantastic Wednesday so far!

Love,

Buds Class Children
