Argentina Day!

Happy Thursday everyone! Had a fantastic day in Petals Class! We started our morning having a great time playing with the giant lego blocks! We loved working together to make a huge tower until it fell over! The giant lego are made from soft materials so even if the huge towers fall on us, it doesn’t hurt. Actually, it was quite the opposite, we loved it when it fell on us! Nimo sat down with us and we sang lots of songs together! We continued pasting wood materials on our little trees and we also started a new craft today! On the table were several colors of tissue paper, a tray, and some glue. We chose two colors of tissue paper then we ripped it up into small pieces! Our teachers encouraged us to only use our pointer finger and thumb to help develop our fine motor skills! After we were done shredding up the paper, we spread the glue all over the white paper then pasted the tissue paper we ripped up. When we were finished we had a beautiful flower on our paper!

We packed away our toys earlier than usual then we had our snacks and went straight to the park. While we were getting ready for the park our teachers told us, “You don’t need to wear your jackets, just need your smocks.” “No jackets!?”, “But I have a jacket!”, “Why?” we all asked. Our teachers told us it was very warm outside today so we wouldn’t need to wear our big jackets. The sun kept us very warm at the park and we enjoyed running around and sliding down with our friends!

When we got back from the park we quickly got ready for our circle time. While we waited for our special guest to join us, we continued the fun Lego activity from yesterday. Today we had Reika, Anna, and Aiden stand against the wall and our friends stacked up the giant Lego. When the Lego size matched how tall our friends were, we stopped and counted how many blocks tall they were.

Nimo: Do you remember who was bigger yesterday?

Petals: G!

Nimo: Do you remember how many blocks?

G: 18

Nimo: Today we have?

Petals: R, A and A!

M helped R, M helped A and L helped A stack their blocks.

Nimo: Are they the same size?

Petals : Yeah!

Just when we were going to start counting the number of blocks, we noticed our guest in the classroom.

E: R's mommy's here

T: R's from Argentina

S: That’s right! We are from Argentina which is a long country at the bottom of South America. You get a card when you're born in Argentina. Does my picture look like R?

Petals: Ya!

S: Argentina won the Soccer World Cup!

J, S, A : I play soccer!

S: Do you know how to say, “hello” in Spanish?

T: Bonjour!

S: Close, we say, “hola”!

S then showed us lots of cool pictures and unique things people use in Argentina. She even brought us a yummy treat to try.

S: This is “Dulce de Leche a specialty from Argentina, it tastes like caramel!

We each got a spoon and we tried a little bit of the Dulce de Leche, it was very sweet and yummy! Our friends liked it a lot!

S showed us a picture of a popular animal in Argentina, the Alpaca.

E: It's fluffy!

Next we took a look at a big Argentina flag. We saw light blue which meant the sky, white for clouds and a yellow sun in the middle. Sofia prepared a super fun activity for us! She brought a light blue, white, and yellow slime for us and we mixed lots of collage materials inside to make it prettier! When we were done we packed them into a container for us to take home.

M: It's so cool slime

E: It's sticky

J: I love this

Our friends loved playing with the slime and were very excited to play with them at home! We said good bye to S and R and finished up our circle time. We went back and counted the blocks. R and A had 18 blocks and A had 17.

Nimo: How many blocks do we need to change 17 to 18 ?

T: One!

We did the activity one more time with T, M, and J.

R: T is the same as R.

A: 18!

E: Too many blocks for M! We need to take away some.

M: We need to take away one more for J

Petals : J has 17 and T has 18!

Nimo: 18 and 17, which one is bigger ?

M: 18 !

R: I am going like this and go bigger!

Just like how the flowers grow and grow, we are also growing and growing! When it comes time for us to move to up to Flowers Class, we wonder how many blocks we will have!

Thank you for another fabulous day! Hope you all have a lovely evening and see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
