Our Shinkansen Name and Color
Happy Tuesday! It's a warm sunny day, and we're ready to enjoy it!
MORNING ACTIVITIES
Today was class picture day! We all wore our Ohana t-shirts and sat together as a class with our friends and teachers as we had our picture taken.
We continued making different things for our upcoming “Shinkansen trip”, including our ekibens. We found that we have a talent for making food out of various crafting materials! It looks good enough to eat! We can’t wait to buy it at the station before boarding the train!
We also thought back on last week’s International Month presentations of Ukraine and Philippines. We drew pictures of our favorite things from each country to be included in luggage that we created from construction paper. We drew things like, Ukraine’s flowers and soup, and Philippines beaches, water buffalo, and Jeepney. The luggage is filling up with all of the countries we’ve “visited” so far!
CIRCLE TIME
We stared by reviewing what we had talked about the previous day. There were some friends who weren’t here yesterday, so we thought it would be nice to let them know some of the big decisions we made regarding the design of our Shinkansen!
Ky told us that we decided, “our Shinkansen name!”
Ka said that we all gave some ideas on what we could call our Shinkansen, and then we held a vote to decide which name would win.
Ka: Who is more name, Princess or Cinderella?
Princess was the winner!
QUESTION OF THE DAY ( Do you know which colors the Shinkansen are? )
Ky: Blue and white.
Da: Blue and yellow.
Au: Different color Shinkansen. White and blue, yellow with blue stripes, green, white. Like all Shinkansen could be different.
We know that there a many different colors that the Shinkansen can be, so we thought that we should decide which color our Shinkansen will be! Let’s throw out some ideas first!
Au: Rainbow yellow! Like yellow, dark yellow, and on top is blue.
Da: Purple
Hi: Rainbow
Be: Princess dress
Hi: Pink
An: Blue
Ri: Green
Br: Red
Co: Red
Ky: Gray and black
We held the first round of voting, which eliminated half of the choices. We then held our final vote on the top two vote getters, “gray and black” and “princess dress.”
The results were in; 5 votes for “gray and black” and 10 votes for “princess dress.”
We asked those who were outvoted if they were ok with the results. They said, “yes”, and even Da said, “I want to change to princess dress.” So, we’re all on board! Tomorrow we begin decorating our Shinkansen, named Princess, to look like it is wearing many different princess dresses. We can’t wait to start!
STORY TIME / READING TIME ( Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss )
Recently, we have been practicing letter sounds and rhyming words. This book combines the two perfectly!
We began by seeing if we could remember any words that rhyme…
Au: House and mouse.
Da: Fox and box.
Now let’s try reading the cover! Ka tried her best and gave us the first two words, “hop on …” Ke tried to help us out with the last word by saying the letter’s names, “P.O.P.”
After everyone gave their best effort, Ka said the title again, this time very smoothly, “Hop on Pop!”
We read through the book, stopping occasionally when we thought we could read some parts…
Hi: Tall and small.
Be: Pat sat on bat.
Ky: Pat sat on the cat.
Hi: Sad, dad, had.
We stopped about halfway through the book and decided that we’d finish the rest tomorrow. We’re really improving our reading ability and we like to read books that we can read ourselves! It’s fun!
We're excited to come back again tomorrow to spend another day with our friends and teachers! Have a wonderful evening!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
