Technology in Flowers
As we bid goodbye to March, we are excited to say hello to the month of April! Before moving on to our circle time, we looked and checked our schedule for April. Although we are very happy to welcome the new month, we are sad to hear that our friends Ky and A will soon be leaving Flowers. As the saying goes, there is always a time for everything. And for Flowers, there is no goodbye but only “see you again”. This is for real because on Monday, Ti is spending the whole day with us! Yay😊 We can’t wait to see him again!
In April, we are going to have our much-awaited Show and Tell. When we heard that we are going to have our Show and Tell soon, Ky immediately asked, “How about my Show and Tell?’. He felt relieved when Vieda said that on April 5th, Wednesday is his and A’s turn for Show and Tell. Other friends joined in the conversation and said, “How about my Show and Tell. I want to do my Show and Tell, too!”. We are so happy that all of us will have a turn to do our own Show and Tell. We are looking forward to seeing everyone’s Show and Tell!
MORNING ACTIVITIES
Remember our arm and hand painting activity yesterday? Well, we turned them into a big sakura or cherry blossoms tree. We drew what we would like to do under the sakura tree, and then made tiny balls of pink tissue paper. We glued them on the tree, and ta-da --- a very beautiful sakura tree has come alive!
It’s been a while since we last saw our huge puzzle of the body skeleton. Da, Ky, and A showed so much interest in the bones of our body. They tried to compare which was longer so they laid down next to it. They also looked at the bone pieces and said, “I think this people bone look like dog bone”.
Sh and Ke were inseparables as “police officers” enjoying their meal at a restaurant.
After snack time, Maryna came for dance class. We love dance class and quickly requested Maryna which songs to play that we could dance into. Thank you so much for all the fun and interesting dance moves you teach us😊
For park time, we went to play at Amishiro Park. We enjoyed sliding down the roller slides with our friends. It was so much fun and felt like we were a shinkansen! Liezel made a tunnel, too, which made our slide more fun! We also enjoyed running around and watching pigeons fly. We even picked cherry blossom petals and blew them in the air.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Is technology good for people?)
We define technology as something that makes things better and faster. We see how much technology we have in the kitchen, which makes us feel that it is good for us. Unfortunately, some of our friends think otherwise. Here’s what we have shared in class:
Ky: Technology help so it’s good.
D: Because if you use technology, lights gonna turn off. You can’t see and you bump into things.
A: Technology can help you remember you have to go in the river to wash your clothes.
Be: It can help people if they want to cook. You just put it in the stove than burning a fire.
Sh: Because it’s doing better. We’re not going to die from bad animals because technology make cute animals.
Ka: Because sometimes it can hurt when you use up to high building and they work and it’s dangerous.
Hi: I answered no to the question of the day because I don’t know everything about technology.
Re: Some things technology made are cute, but some are not cute. Cute like ribbon, but not cute like snake.
Ka: Some machines can make frogs and rabbits.
SAMPLE OF TECHNOLOGY
Vieda showed us her phone and played her favorite music from it. We heard a song playing from her phone. Then she took out something small and put one each in her ear. The moment that she placed them in her ear, we stopped hearing the song being played, while she could hear them through her ears.
Sh: My mommy have it but I don’t know what is it called.
Ke: I have my home. Y, Daddy, and mommy, too!
C: That is earphones
Ky: My daddy always have it.
Hi: Sometimes I do it at home so I know it.
We were amazed now that we realize the music can be heard from the phone to the earphones when there isn’t a cable or string that attaches them. Wow, that’s technology!
Another technology that we saw in Flowers today was Echo Dot or what we plainly call, Alexa. Those who have it at home said, “I say Alexa please play Let It Go! and it will play that music”. At lunch time, we took turns requesting what songs we would like to be played. At times, more than one friend was requesting, and Alexa was not able to play the song that had been requested. Ky said, “Oh no. Alexa doesn’t have listening ears today!”. We were fascinated as to how this small device could play songs, set a timer or answer our questions by just saying what we want to say out loud. No buttons to press, or complicated steps to follow to do those tasks. All we need to do is to “talk
“ to Alexa.
Technology has created many tools and devices that make some of our chores and tasks easier. Now, it was time to discuss what negative things it could bring about when there’s too much technology.
A: It could make your eyes hurt.
Sh: That happens to me sometimes.
Ky: My mommy says no YouTube, but the movie is okay.
Ka: It can hurt our body.
C: My iPad have something to hold it so, my neck not hurting.
We heard that iPad, YouTube on our TV are just a few examples of technology which make watching videos or checking something on the internet easier and faster. However, as with any other things, when we use them too much, it could also cause pain in our body. We had so many things that we wanted to share but it was past our lunch time. Let’s continue to discuss this matter next week.
Before we got ready for lunch time, Vieda showed us some ice cubes, water, and paint. Someone mentioned that fridge/freezer is a result of technology. We would like to check how long does it takes for the water to turn into ice. Certainly, we would have questions about the role of technology in turning water into ice as well. Let’s share our ideas next week!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
