What Can We Grow?

It’s the first school day of April and we are slowly inching our ways towards the Americas as part of our ongoing theme of “Transporting Around the Globe”. While we are gradually transitioning from Africa to the Americas, we explored several “topics” shared by the continents… which were food and plants!

What Can We Scoop?

This sensory station play was intended for our younger ones to explore different textures and for the older ones to come up with creative ways on how they can go about the items such as dried barley tea, plastic egg trays, acorns, cracked egg shells, and spoons.

A few of us bonded out at the balcony doing this sensory station:

  1. G is setting herself to be a role model for M by looking after and doing parallel play with her. In this station M followed each step that G did such as scooping dried barley tea inside egg shells. It was heartwarming to witness G tell M to be cautious in not eating the dried barley tea.

  2.  J used the plastic egg tray as his base for his special acorn cake which he said came from a special cafe. He first scooped and placed dried barley tea into the egg tray before topping it off with acorns. J offered a slice of his cake to everyone and Isa was delighted to receive one.

  3. While J was serving his acorn cake, S noticed and wanted to join in by serving the special hot bread & potato dish that he made!

Kitchen Play

We have an appliance that jazzed up our small kitchen… a toy microwave! The toy microwave was such a hit with us as it turns and even lights up when something is being heated up… just like the ones we have in our homes!

R, O, and W bonded together by taking turns and observing how a microwave works. W noticed that the plate/tray inside of it turns around in which he further explored the idea of “spinning” by getting a round shaped wooden block and observed how it would spin until a full stop.

L spent time observing A and E as they seem to know quite a few kitchen skills such as using a ladle to neatly scoop “soup” into another container and peeling fruits.

Sprinkling “Sparkle” to our Magical Creatures from our Colorful Night Safari

Together with Goh San, K and N spearheaded in adding sparkle to our magical creatures. It was interesting to observe how both took notice of the glitters’ texture when it got unto our fingers.

Grooving to a New Song

We played a new song to dance to to spice up our dance playlist… it was Jason Mraz’ “I Feel Like Dancing”. G, W, J, K, and S took the lead in sharing the dance moves that the rest of us followed.

After a groovy dancing session, we settled down to Patty Shukla’s “Shake and Move” wherein we were encouraged to listen carefully to the lyrics to be able to know what actions and motions to do.

“Red is a Dragon” by Roseanne Thong

We reread the book “Red is a Dragon” which was a story shared to us by Goh San to introduce a few customs and traditions she did as a Chinese Singaporean growing up in Singapore. To the tune of “It’s Going on a Bear Hunt”, we read/sang along the words of this song.

Outdoor Play

It was a lovely sunny day wherein we tossed rings and pretended to be trains running around the busy city of Tokyo while out at the park.

We hope everyone is having a great start of the week.

Love,

Buds Class Children
