Making Videos for Our Shinkansen Trip

Happy Wednesday! We have been having an amazing day together!

LIBRARY

We always enjoy our library time after snack, especially when we have books that we borrowed from Azabu Library. But even though we keep the books from Azabu library separated from our Ohana books, we sometimes forget to put them back where they go when we’re finished. We discussed why it’s important not to mix up the books…

Re: Some book have strong sticker, some book not so strong sticker. Azabu library book no find, Ohana book one is ok.

Ke: Ohana book, sticker no. Sticker is no coming.

Hi: The sticker take off, the library book will be sad.

Hi: Library book you cannot go home, so sad.

We can tell the difference between our books and the ones we borrow from the library. The books from the library have a sticker on them. We know that if we don’t put the library books together, we might loose them. We also think that if the sticker comes off the book, then we won’t be able to tell which book belongs where, and then the book will not be able to return to the library.

We want to make sure that every book we check out from the library is treated well while visiting Ohana, and that it returns home safe and sound.

CIRCLE TIME ( MUSIC VIDEO & COMMERCIAL)

We are finally going on our shinkansen “trip” tomorrow! We have been preparing for weeks now. One of the things we think is important is, what we will do to pass time while inside the shinkansen.

Ky: We need to make television.
Da: We can bring real iPad from home!

Those of us who have traveled on the shinkansen before say that you can watch something on the iPad. Instead of just watching something on the iPad, we decided that it was a good idea to make something ourselves.

Ky: How about commercial?
Ka: How about Paw Patrol movie?

Ok, that sounds great! Let’s make some videos that can entertain us on the shinkansen! Maybe we can sing some songs and make a music video! Which songs would we like to do?

Hi: Elsa
Ri: Jasmine
Re: Ariel
An: Elsa
Be: Jasmine
Ai: Katy Perry

We decided to do two songs, the Paw Patrol song and our favorite, the Elsa song from Frozen. We all decided which song we wanted to perform. We did a short rehearsal for each song and then we recorded them! Each group did an amazing job with their song! We were really having a lot of fun singing and dancing, we wanted to make more videos! We also made videos for Katy Perry’s Roar and Queen’s We Will Rock You.

Now it was time to make our commercial, but some of us didn’t understand what commercial means…

Ai: It’s like you talk something that gonna be in the store.

What kind of commercial should we make?

Ky: Ohana commercial
Be: Pet shop

Let’s make a commercial about our school! What do we want to tell others about Ohana? Why do we love our school?

Au: When I was little, I go with mom and dad to find a school for me. Daddy’s bicycle has seat for me at the back. Then daddy drop me at Ohana, then I cry. I didn’t speak English. I said something you don’t know. You can learn English (at Ohana)!

Be: When I was little, I went to different school. But the teachers weren’t right for me, so I go to Ohana.

Sh: Ohana is fun!

Ky: Lot’s of friends at Ohana.

Da: I love Ohana.

We recorded what we wanted to tell everyone about Ohana, then we sang our school song! That was our commercial. We can’t wait to watch our video tomorrow!

SHINKANSEN FACTS

Since we will be riding on our shinkansen tomorrow, we thought that it would be a good idea to learn as much as we can about it! We borrowed some books from the library that will teach us all we need to know. We split into two groups to find out more…

CAMERON’S GROUP ( How the shinkansen moves and stops )

First, before we look at the book, let’s see what we think. How does the shinkansen move?

Da: The shinkansen has back door. Open the door, the battery. Push the button like green color. Big battery.
Hi: Press the button, then it’s going to close the door. Green to open.
An: Big batteries, 20!
Hi: 10 batteries.
Ka: 2 batteries.

Why does the shinkansen need batteries?

Hi: Because, no battery, is not going to move. If have battery, the train is going to move.
Hi: Because battery help shinkansen to go fast.

Now let’s look at the book and see if we are right…

We could see a picture of a train with something on the top of it.

Ka: Like, it has thing to hold.
Da: It has something like zig zag on top.
Ai: The train that connects.

The picture shows that the device on top of the train is touching something above it. Cameron told us that the thing the train is touching, is full of electricity. What’s electricity?

Ai: It’s like power. Anything that has energy from wind, water, or river. If you use too much power, they will slow down.
Ka: I have a book that tells electricity that you have in your house.
Ai: There’s like a sound wave, when you say “hello”, those poles that holds the line, it travels through those lines.
Ka: If you turn on the light, and you’re sleeping with the light on, electricity will waste, then no more electricity. If you’re not watching something or in the room, you need to turn it off.

Electricity is what makes all of our things like, lights, computer, etc., work. It’s what gives them power. Shinkansen use electricity too! Those things at the top of the train connects to electricity and that gives them the power to move!

Now that we know how the shinkansen moves, how does it stop?

Da: Inside the train, the wheels.

We could see a picture of the wheels on the train, with something next to the wheels. We learned that it is called a brake. Just like the brakes on a bicycle, the shinkansen has brakes that push against the wheels to make it stop. The driver of the train has a brake handle that they can pull. When they pull the handle, it sends a signal to the brake to push against the wheel.

Ka: The brake is like the noise you can hear inside sometimes.

Although some shinkansen do have batteries in case of emergency, now we know that the train uses electricity from wires overhead instead of from batteries as its means of energy. We also know that the shinkansen uses brakes on the wheels, along with other things, in order to stop.

VIEDA’S GROUP ( Why do shinkansen have non-reserved and reserved seats? )

Let’s find out what we can find out about the seats on the shinkansen by looking at the book…

Au: You put your card in there, so you can sleep.
Ky: Press the button on the chair, you can go back.
Be: The green car is the reserved seats. We need more money.
Au: The red ones, you can sit anywhere.

We saw the picture of the seats that are in Grand Class

Sh: The seats are the same seats I saw on the plane.
Re: These seats look like bread. I saw this chair and I asked my mommy, “is this plane?” Mommy said, “No this is shinkansen.” Chair is gonna have cushion. Not all shinkansen, but some have cushion like the princess.
Au: When I went to Lithuania, on the plane, I see the same seats like this. But it’s shinkansen and the same seats on the plane.

We talked a little bit about our past experiences on the shinkansen.

Ky: When we went to Kanazawa, we sat like five people. First R was with daddy, and she cried so she moved to mommy. Other side is K, K, and daddy. R is looking at the teddy bear while K was sleeping.
Ri: I fight together with my mommy on the shinkansen. Because I’m not sitting on the chair, so my mommy got angry.
Re: If you have iPad, you can watch and eat obento. You can also sleep. When the shinkansen says, “Niigata”, then you can go out.
Ri: I have my iPad and I played game on the shinkansen.

Be told us about her experience seeing the chairs move and how the staff cleaned them.

Be: When I’m waiting for my next ride, the chairs flipped. I saw the people cleaning the shinkansen. They pressed on their feet and pressed a button and the chairs flipped.

We can do a lot of things while sitting on the shinkansen, like reading, eating, sleeping, watching movies, etc. The seats on the shinkansen can do many things too, like reclining to help you sleep and they even have a table for your food. We learned that the reserved seats are gray, and the non-reserved seats are blue. We know that seats can move too! We wonder if our seats will be like this tomorrow…

We hope you all have a nice evening! See you tomorrow! Let’s ride the shinkansen!

Love,
Flowers XOXO
