Happy Shichigosan!

Happy Shichigosan! Many thanks to Ak, Ay, and Ri for sharing about this month’s special tradition in Japan called Shichigosan. Flowers friends listened intently as they read to us a story about the tradition. After a meaningful conversation about the story, we watched a slideshow that showed our friends in their Shichigosan attire. Our friends looked amazing and gorgeous in their hakama and kimono! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photos with us, Th, Re, Ta, Ke, and Mi ! We had an opportunity to see and feel a real kimono meant for 3-year-olds, and 5-year-olds which in fact was worn by Ay when she was 3 and 5 years old! After Shichigosan event, Maryna came for our dance class. Thank you so much for a fun-filled dance class. Our friends have memorized not only the dance steps, but also the songs!

 Question-and-Answer

Ke: Why do you need a belt?

R: Boys don’t have a belt.

Mi:Why girls need shoes?

R: They’re a little different than normal shoes, right?!
Th: Why you wear those socks?

R: So that they fit in the shoes.

Be: Why do we need to wear those shoes?

R: A long time ago someone decided to make those shoes.

C: Why boys and girls have different color?

R: It’s just like now that boys and girls wear different clothes.

Gr: Why that girl have a flower in her hair?

R: It’s like how nowadays, princesses wear something in their hair to look pretty.

Shichigosan Craft Time

During the slideshow, we heard that the children who go to the shrine for their Shichigosan hold a long bag that has a special candy called “chitose ame”. This week, we made our candy bag and Vieda told us that our moms would do something special with us for this craft. Guess what it was? They showed us how to write 7, 5, and 3 in Kanji! The numbers looked like pictures for us😊 We looked at their Kanji character and carefully copied it. Then, we glued them in order of 7, 5, and 3 on the candy bag. Our Shichigosan candy bag is now finished! They distributed “chitose ame” to each of us and put them in the candy bag. We can’t wait to eat them, but we promised that we will wait until we get home. Hmm, we wondered what this candy tastes like!

Question of the Day (Do you know what 7, 5, 3, is?)

Thanks to L for reading today’s question of the day. In the morning, there were two friends who put their names on the NO column. After the Shichigosan presentation, it seemed like everyone knows what 7, 5, 3 is now! So, we decided to share our thoughts about Shichigosan as we heard from the presentation.

            Hi: It’s Shichigosan.

Li: Thank you (to the moms). Fun!

Be: The 3 is for boys and girls and 5 is for boys and 7 is for girls. Chitose ame is the candy, and you pray for long life.

            Ei: Mommy said, “Draw 7,3,5”.

Au: Some of them are Japanese numbers.

Co: 3,5,7 is Shichigosan. There’s a kimono, and special shoes and socks. It’s special, so a lot of people is there. Chitose ame is there, too!

Re: Shichi is seven, go is five, and san is 3!

Mi: Shichigosan is you dress up and wear a belt and go to matsuri. I wear special shoes.

Thank you so much again, Ay, Ak, and Ri for leading the presentation, and showing us how to write 7,5, 3, in Kanji😊

 MORNING ACTIVITIES
We painted our favorite animal and had so much to share with others why we chose this animal. Our favorite animals range from teeny-weeny animals to wild animals! They will be displayed on the wall as soon as we write a short blurb about it. On another table, our friends worked on their toilet tissue tube rolls sculptures. We are looking forward to how these sculptures will look once everyone is done and put on display!

What a terrific Tuesday we had! We hope you had a wonderful day as well! See you tomorrow!

 Love,

Flowers
