Animals Around the World

Good evening mommy and daddy!

We requested to play with cars again so our teachers took them out for us. We continued making the rabbit art craft with Joe. We also enjoyed looking at life books and introducing our family to friends. When Sayaka announced we had 5 more minutes to play before it was time to clean up, K and G started to clean up. “Do you want to clean up now?” Sayaka asked us and we answered, “Yes!” so we all started cleaning up and had snack time.

"Where’s Stripey?" by WENDY BINKS was the book for today’s circle time. There were lots of animals such as kookaburras, koalas, brushtail possums, and kangaroos, in the book and the illustrations were very beautiful. The story was about the family of emu. The mommy emu left 30 eggs with papa. Papa emu's name was Crickey and he had a big job to look after the eggs because the eggs started hatching. One day one of the baby emu told Crickey that one baby named Stripey is missing! He quickly went out to look for Stirpey. At the end of the story, Papa found him and Stripey came back to his family. It was a very cute story. Then Sayaka asked us if we could find a Koala which we saw in the book on our world map. C raised his hand and said that he really wants to try it. He opened his eyes widely and looked closely…he said, “Hmmm…I can’t see it…It’s tricky.” Sayaka gave him clue and he looked south, “I see it!” He smiled and pointed at the koala. Well done, C! Sayaka wondered if we knew the name of the country. T replied, “Australia?” Wow! That’s right! We also found out that there were pictures of kangaroos in Australia. Sayaka mentioned that we are going to have International month starting next month so hopefully we could learn more about the animals around the world. G raised his hands and said, “ I like animals.” Then other petals said, “Me too!” We are already very excited for the International Month!

Just before we had short exercise time with Sayaka. She placed cones and we hopped, jumped, and ran. The last one was zigzag running. It was a bit tricky, but lots of fun! It was a good warmup before we went to the park!

It was always fun playing at the park. After we came back it was almost lunch time. Sayaka had a short story time. The book was THE CRANKY BEAR by NICK BLAND. It was a very delightful book. The bear was very cranky because he was very sleepy. The four animals tried to cheer him up, but it didn’t work. Then the sheep had a great idea for the bear and it made him a very comfortable pillow from his wool. We had an interesting conversation.

Sayaka: Look at the bear. Happy?
K: Angry!
J: Not angry anymore. *After we finished the story.
S: Why is happy now?
T: He wants to sleep.
J: I touch sheep before. *Showed his hand.
G: Happy
L: Sleeping!
G: No angry.

Thank you very much for sharing your ideas! “Who wants to sleep like the bear?” Sayaka asked us. We took a minute to think…”Lunch?” Good idea! Yes, it is lunch time. We started washing hands and getting ready for lunch.

Thank you very much for today and see you all tomorrow.

Love,

Petals class
