Assorted Tuesdays
Assorted Wooden Pegs & Sticks + Fuzzy Wires
The aim of this station is to introduce us to the “mechanical” aspect of creating/making different modes of transportation. How do the wings of the airplane move? How fast can the helicopter’s rotor spin? Answers to questions like these we aim to find out by tinkering with these items that resemble the movements of transportations we love.
K found a round wooden peg and thought of inserting two fuzzy wires which somehow resembled a plant. She gave a smile and nodded when she was asked if what she made was a plant in a pot.
K thought of inserting a fuzzy wire through the holes of a stick and letting it dangle. She then explored how she could successfully spin it around without it falling off by tightening the tie around it.
Y and K thought of making a “skewer” like structure. Both of them were counting how many wooden pegs they each could insert. Kako thought of using the skewers she made as her pretend food for kitchen play.
Pasting Paper Mache
G spearheaded this station by showing others how fun it is to get one’s hands into a sticky fun mess. M and N followed her lead and enjoyed feeling the stickiness of glue in between her fingers.
Together with teachers, they explored the act of “drip” by watching glue gradually drip from the spatula when held up high.
Pompoms, Bubble Wrap, and Wool Sensory Play
This sensory station was set up for the younger members of our class. M enjoyed rubbing pompoms and bubble wrap in between her fingers.
R occupied himself with popping the inflated bubbles while taking note of how many he has successfully popped.
Kitchen Pretend Play
Our oldest members K, Y, and W have been spending a lot of time together by engaging in group plays. This morning, they set up their own little dining room with the three of them having their own snacks and chatting to each other both in English and Japanese.
A mingled with others by building block structures and trying her hand in most of the stations available.
Circle Time
We started our Circle Time by being given a scarf each to use as a prop when we pretended to be airplanes. To the calming tune of Poolside’s “Hot In The Shade”, we flew up in the sky, cruising through fluffy clouds, and going up and down by bending our knees depending on the “turbulence” that came across our way.
Eric Carle’s “Above Us, in the Sky” was read for us to be aware of what we can see up in the sky. Through the book, we identified that the sun, rain, airplane, and rainbow are commonly seen up in the sky.
We also read/sang Disney’s “Hello, World!” again to get used to seeing pictures depicting people from different countries. This book also serves as our morning roll call.
Outdoor Play
We headed out to Step Park and kicked & tossed balls as much as we wanted and had a hearty lunch afterwards.
We hope you’re having a lovely Tuesday so far!
Love,
Buds Class Children
