Tons of Fun on a Thursday!

Happy Thursday! We have been busy in Flowers class as we have lots of fun exploring and discovering new things in relation to our learning theme. To grasp more about the concept of a map, we made trips to the stationery shop, Azabu Library, and Mamiana Park in Higashi Azabu.

We were fascinated to be able to remember the way to the library. We passed by many shops, convenient stores, fast food stores, and restaurants. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Azabu Library, we noticed that there was a sign that said it was closed. So, we checked the time and decided to find a different park for us to play. We walked a bit more to Higashi Azabu area where we found a park called Mamiana Park. We had so much fun playing on the slide and swings. We enjoyed running around chasing our friends and teachers. When we came back to school, we shared what we thought was the most fun part we had at the park.

Ky: I play with Au, Da, and Cameron. Just running.

Da: Cameron was catching us.

Au: I played with Ky, D and Sh. Cameron was catching us, but we are the police.

Hi: Cameron is catching the boys because Cameron is trying to eat them.

S; He’s the monster!

Au: If he catch you, then you will be in his team.

Sh: A nd Kati was trying to freeze me. I don’t want to go close to them because they are freezing me.

Hi: We are all Elsa so we can freeze them.

Da: Cameron was catching me, but he is so fast, and I didn’t see him behind me.

R: I played slide and swing with Ri.

Ky: Cameron didn’t ever catch me.

Ka: It wasn’t my first time. I played with Ri.

Co: I played with Re on the slide.

Hi: Ka and Hi. I played with everything.

Hi : I go to Singapore with the rocking giraffe.

Br: I played with Cameron on the slide.

 Morning Activities and Free Play

Today’s table activities we continued to work on our house craft. Some of us decorated the house using colored Popsicle sticks, colored matchsticks, and the paper mosaic. This time we also added the map of our house. We learned that the map of our house is also called a floor plan. On a separate paper, we drew the layout of our house. At first, we wondered how we would be able to make it look like our house!  We used our thinking brain to figure out how our house looks like inside. We know where things are and what we have inside our house. But we weren’t sure whether they are on the left side or the right side?

Ka: There’s a stair inside grandma’s house. We have so many doors inside and rooms, bathroom, and toilet on the left side. In grandma’s house there’s only three chairs, not like in my house we have six chairs.

Ri: This is bed. R’s room. It’s big room Ke and Ky. This one mommy and daddy bed.

An: We have kitchen, toilet, door, my room, and my baby brother’s room. Mommy sleep with me and Daddy sleep with my brother.

Fire Drill

We also had our first fire drill for this year. After snacks, we got ready to go outside. Just as we were going downstairs, we heard something that sounded familiar. Some of us weren’t sure and then we remembered what it was! Da said, “It’s fire!”.

What do we need to do? Hi confidently suggested, “ We need to cover our mouth and nose, and we need to go down!”. That’s right and that was what we did. We slowly and quietly went downstairs together with our teachers. Well done, Flowers!

We learned that having regular fire drills would prepare us what to do in case there is a real fire. We were a bit surprised by the loudness of the fire alarm, but it did not stop us from immediately recalling what we needed to do. We put our hand over our mouth and nose. At the gate, we quietly lined up as we waited until everyone came. Fire drills and earthquake drills are such essential parts of our learning experience here in Ohana.

 Love,
