What Our Hands Can Do!

Today was all about focusing on verbally identifying the actions that our hands are capable of doing. Our teachers narrate the process of what we do which helps in building up our English vocabulary and social skills while allowing us to freely choose activities that tickle our interest.

Here are the several activities we have done using our hands today:

“Transfer”

Together with Goh San, K and R interacted by playing a game similar to table ice hockey by using their hands to roll toys towards each other to catch. This allows for (1) strengthening our sense of body coordination, (2) exposure to the concept of how much force should be used when rolling/transferring the toy to reach one another, and (3) being aware of the toys’ structure to see which one rolls nicely.

Apart from the table ice hockey game, our hands are also used to transfer food toys from one container to another. N used both her hands to fill up pots and pick up food toys from the floor.

“Looping Beads”

Our hands were also kept busy by looping a string through beads. R and J were the ones mostly interested in this activity wherein J pretended that the bead he looped through the string was his pet dog! R explored several ways on how to insert the string through the beads such as checking the size of the beads’ hole with his finger and pulling one end of the string to make it easy for him to loop.

“Climb”/ “Balance”/ “Support” / “Pick Up”

We also learned that our hands help us support our bodies when balancing and climbing. Tamara guided K in learning how to use both her hands to carry her weight when climbing up and going down the balcony. J extended his arms sideways which helped him balance better while on one foot. Wren used his hands and took initiative to pick up the caps from dot markers that fell on the floor.

“Create Art” / “Ripping Paper”  / “Sort Colors”

Our Class Artwork is starting to take shape with our teachers putting together prominent parts of our previous scribbles and drawings. Today, our hands “created art” by using dot markers to add colors. At one point, all of us made a “musical medley” through the sound produced by stamping. K was amused with ripping and crumpling paper while Wren used his hands to sort and properly twist the cap back on the dot markers.

“To Show What We Like”

We also learned that we can also use our hands to show others what we like. K and W flipped the pages of their LifeBooks to show each other pictures of the families. R used his hands to show his teachers that he likes strawberries by getting the toy strawberry.

J and K picked specific furniture that they liked from the wooden dollhouse collection. J said he used to sleep in a crib while K liked fixing the cushion on the toy sofa.

“Help Each Other” / “Link Objects Together”

For Circle Time, it was emphasized that we use our hands to produce the rhythm used to sing our Good Morning song. We use our hands to clap and tap our laps, providing us with the opportunity to increase awareness of noticing auditory patterns.

When each of us had a turn to greet everyone “Good Morning!”, we used our hands to catch the car that Erika gave us. We used the fingers on our hands to roll the wheels and even balance toy cars atop our fingertips.

When Meal Time was nearing, we were asked to link together the toy vehicles. When a few of us needed help, those of us who were car enthusiasts took initiative to help and demonstrate how it is properly done.

We hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday so far.

Love,

Buds Class Children
