Our Tongue and Paper Dolls
It was great to be back at school. Happy Monday! The weather was sunny and with a little lower temperature made the day quite relaxing than usual. We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
In the morning, we welcomed our friends and teachers with big smiles. When we got into the classroom, we were excited to see everyone and couldn't wait to play with our friends. We were able to complete our morning jobs smoothly. After that, we enjoyed choosing activities for the day.
Morning Activities / Free Play
We had a fabulous time with Vieda while doing our fantastic free painting on a large piece of white construction paper. The painting process helps us hone our creativity while also working on our fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. When we tried mixing different paint colors, such as red, blue, and yellow with a paintbrush, we were able to discover that combination of colors could result into another color! We also sprinkled some cinnamon and turmeric powder onto the paint to add scent to our masterpiece. We enjoyed sniffing the paint from time to time and liked how we all tried to guess what scent it was. First, we painted with one color and then did some experiment with mixing two colors. We had fun making lots of lines and circles. As we progressed into our painting activity, we noticed that bumpy and powdery texture of our art. We touched it gently. We sniffed it carefully. We said, “Painting is fun!”. This activity was a great way of getting introduced to some sensory experiences, as well as a fun way of learning how tertiary colors are made. We can’t wait to see what we are going to do next with our painting craft. Here’s an interesting conversation we had while painting. Please enjoy!
Be: Wow! Look, yellow and blue make green.
Vieda: How did you know that?
Be: Because when I mixed them in the water with my paintbrush, the water became green.
Ar: My water is orange now. Yellow and blue make orange.
Re: I made purple.
Vieda: How does it smell?
Br: Smells bad.
Be: Smells like coconut.
A: Yeah! It's coconut. I drink coconut water and coconut juice.
Homemade Paper Dolls
Last week we learned how to care for and play with our baby dolls. We practiced how to bathe them and dress the baby using our gentle hands. And we did a great job, Flowers! To continue with learning about babies, we had a table activity about making our very own paper dolls! First, Liezel helped us outline a baby doll on white construction paper and cut it. Then we found ourselves busy making their dresses. We picked the fabric we liked and tried our best to cut the fabric as the doll’s size. For the hair, we used different colors of yarn. Finally, we added googly eyes and drew the nose and mouth to make the faces. And ta-da!!! A lovely paper doll was born! We shared with our friends and teachers about our paper baby dolls.
Ar: My doll is wearing sandals. Her name is Mommy. I like red hair.
Hii: This is Elsa; she is wearing a dress and has yellow hair.
Rei: This is baby Reiri, wearing a shirt, pants, and blue shoes. She has hat and inside the cap is her hair.
Hi: This is Mommy! Mommy has long pink hair and ribbon. Mommy is wearing a t-shirt.
Circle Time
Since we love to move our bodies, we started our circle time with a game. We played the freeze dance song by Scratch Garden. We had lots of fun hopping, swimming, jumping, flying around, and of course, freezing. While sitting in a circle, Nimo joined us and shared something with us.
We felt a bit sad when Nimo mentioned that he will be in Petals Class from today. We will miss Nimo in class, but we are happy that we can still say hello to him in Petals Class. We can also play with him at Step Park. We gave him our biggest hug. See you around Nimo!
Our calendar leaders, Re and B shared the weather forecast today as well as today’s day, which reminded us of Ri’s birthday today. We then sang the Happy Birthday song for her. We can’t wait for tomorrow’s birthday party to celebrate not only Re’s birthday, but also Hi’s!
After singing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, Liezel asked everyone, “What do you have on your face? Everyone answered we have eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. We moved on to our question of the day.
Question of the Day (Do you have a tongue? )
We tried checking if we did have one, so we stuck out our tongue and looked down to see. But it was difficult to see our tongue, then we realized to go in front of the mirror to see the inside of our mouths. We patiently waited for our turn to use the mirror and we all agreed that we all have a tongue!
Liezel: Why do we have tongues?
Re: Because tongue will tell us if it is yucky or yummy.
Ti: To lick ice cream and something else.
Au: You need your tongue to eat lollipop.
Da: Because you need it.
Be: Because you need it when you lick something even when it's not “ lickable” like crackers.
Hi: Have yummy and yucky on the tongue.
K: We use the tongue for eating.
Liezel: What does your tongue look like? Does it have a color or a shape?
Ti: Kind of white, and it has a line in the middle.
Hi: It's long.
D: It's not long; it's a little bit longer.
Hi: It's square.
Be: My tongue is whiter than Ti
Ti: My tongue is bluer than Be.
Ri: My tongue is pink.
Au My tongue is kind of red and gray.
We had not paid much attention to our tongue before. Wow, there’s a lot of things to talk about it. Let’s see what other things we could learn about our tongue.
At the park, we played What's the Time, Mr. Wolf and had fun running around chasing our friends and teachers!
We hope you had a lovely day too!
Love,
Flowers Class
