What can our hands do?
Sensory Table
We have been enjoying our new sensory table! Today we had flowers, pieces of cardboard and artificial grass mats on the table. While we were exploring the table, we also found bugs and animals among the materials. It looked like they were hiding! , R and A started to look for animals, just like a treasure hunt!
Art Station
The art we made yesterday looked more interesting this morning. We put a lot of glue yesterday and that part became fun things to touch today. E touched it and found out that it was not as sticky anymore, which encouraged A to touch it too. We also used glue and pasted colorful noodle styrofoam & transparent plastic chips. J and S liked to use sticks to spread glue in front of them.
Free Play Station
W, J, Y and L were making a long train trail together. Even though they didn’t have a discussion about how they would like to make it, they were working together really well. L also invented a new play “Let’s roll a cushion” and tried to roll a cushion for long distance. Y was observing what L was doing and tried the same thing. We are always learning from each other even when we don’t look like playing together. N and R were exploring everywhere in the classroom, their common hobby is climbing on things. They climbed up and down the balcony many times without steps. That was a good gross motor skill activity, good job!
Circle Time
After we cleaned up everything we were playing with, we sat down together and had a circle time. Some of us already knew the routine and came to sit down as soon as they finished packing things away. J had a request and said “Baby Shark!!!” so we sang “Baby Shark” first while moving our hands. We also enjoyed singing “Wheels on the Bus” and “Clap Your Hands”. Moving hands and touching different parts of the body made us think about our body parts too. After these songs, Seila told us we would make something by using our hands today. We were wondering what we were going to make, the first thing Seila put in the bowl was…flour! We touched it to feel what it’s like. Some of us really liked that texture but some didn’t. Teachers added salt, oil and some squeeze of lemon juice(!) in the bowl. We still had no idea what we were making, but we were mixing all of them with our hands. At last, teachers added hot water and the thing we were making became… play dough! That was the perfect timing to wash our hands because it was time to eat our yummy yummy snacks.
Play Time
After the snack time, we had free play time. K, S, Y and R were busy cooking in the kitchen area. W, L, A and J were engaging with cars. N and R went on exploring again and found that pushing chairs was fun. We enjoyed this free play time in our own way.
Circle Time 2
We gathered again and moved our body with songs. Each one of us got castanets and made sounds by using our hands. Some friends managed to make sounds by using only two fingers. After we moved a lot, we got a little tired so we sat down and had a story time. The book has different colors and animals. Some animals got interesting materials on so we took turns to touch and feel them. Then teachers brought us playdough that we made earlier and put it on the sensory table. We all were standing around the table and made different things out of playdough. Goh san made a baby elephant and we were very impressed! Then again, it was the perfect timing to wash our hands because it was Lunch Time!
We touched a lot of different things today! See you tomorrow!
