We are not babies anymore!

When we stepped into the classroom we noticed our sensory table was filled with all sorts of things! We couldn’t wait to dig our hands into it, but first we have to do our morning jobs. Once we were done with our jobs we continued our crafts from yesterday, played with the construction set, or worked at the sensory table. Inside our sensory table we had rocks, jewels, twigs, wood chips and letters. Our teachers put in our first letters of our names, and the very first activity we did was to find our letter. We also played some games where we searched for our friends letters too. After we played with the letters for a while we turned the whole area into a restaurant and made lots of food for all of our flowers friends and teachers.

We packed everything away and had our snacks, then we had a short circle time before we went to the park. We changed up our morning song a little bit because we have been learning about the first letter sound of our name. Instead of just singing, “My name is flowers”, we sang, “My name is f, f, flowers,” so we could practice saying the letter sound and also have our friends hear the sound too. We also sang, “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”, because we were going to learn a little bit about the parts of a baby.

Nimo: Our head, shoulders, knees, and toes are what kind of parts?

B: Our body parts.

R: Everyone has body parts.

Nimo: What parts do you see on my face?

T: Hair.

B: I have long hair.

D: I have short hair!

A: I have yellow hair.

T: It’s called blonde.

Nimo: What other parts do you see?

B: Eyes.

Nimo: Please turn to the friend next to you and tell them what color eyes they have.

B: You have black and white eyes.

T: A, your eyes are blue.

Nimo: Any other parts on my face?

A: Ears!

Nimo: What do ears do?

H: Hear and listen.

D: Use them to hear people.

Nimo: Any other parts?

H: Eyes, for seeing.

A: We use eyes to see everything.

R: Looking.

Nimo: Others?

B: Mouth.

Nimo: What is inside the mouth?

H: Teeth.

R: Teeth is for eating.

K: Tongue.

Nimo: Others?

H: Nose.

K: We use the nose for smelling.

T: Eyebrows, but I don’t know why we need them. Maybe to keep the sweat out of your eyes. I got sweat in my eyes once and it hurt a lot.

K: If we don’t have eyebrows then when we are angry other people won’t know.

H: Matsuge.

H: Eyelashes.

Nimo: What about this part?

R: Beard!

H: Chin.

D: Moustache!

We wrapped up our discussion then headed over to Step Park (Miyamura Jidou Kouen), and had a great time playing tag. We also found two big caterpillars crawling around in the sand. After we looked at the caterpillars we put them in the grass so they don’t get hungry. It was very humid outside so it was really hot, we made sure to drink lots of water. When we came back we cooled down, drank water, washed our hands, and changed our masks. We started the second half of our circle time.

Question of the Day: “Do you have a baby?”

K: Me, R, and B said yes.

Nimo brought a baby doll to look at and talked about how we all were babies. We looked at the face of the baby and saw it had eyes, nose, mouth, and all the other parts we talked about.

A: The baby has eyes.

B: It doesn’t have hair.

T: I think that’s a girl because, it doesn’t have hair.

A: It has a very small nose.

K: And small ears.

D: And this one, lips.

We read “Show Me!” by Tom Tracy and Darcia Labrosse. The book was about a mom playing with her baby and making rhymes as she tickled each body parts. We followed along with the book and repeated the name of the body part while we pointed to it on our bodies.

It was fun learning the names of the parts on our faces with songs, books, and activities. We will continue learning more about babies tomorrow! Have a lovely evening everyone and see you all again tomorrow!
