Freight Train, Freight Train, Going So Fast

Today we talked about TRAINS! Everyone came into the classroom nicely, and we played with our train set first. A, T, S, and T especially enjoyed playing with the trains. We had a snack, then everyone sat down for circle time.

At circle time, we sang the Hello Song, then we asked, “How are you today?” Everyone said they were happy today.

T: “I’m happy!”

H: “I’m happy!”

G: “I’m happy!”

A: “Good!”

Jake used our train set and showed us some different things about trains. We saw a Shinkansen engine and a steam locomotive. We talked about “Which one is old, and which one is new? Which one is fast, and which one is slow?” R told us the Shinkansen is FAST and G told us the steam locomotive is SLOW. We also saw a passenger car, a cattle car, and a train station.

S: “I go take a train. Different place and go to a new place.”

H: “Necklace mommy daddy ouchy train.”

R: “I’m going on a train. And a necklace. Ban ban on the train.”

Jake: “Oh, you sit down nicely?”

R: “Yeah.”

G: “Mommy and daddy went on the train. And a boat!”

We learned a new song today called “Freight Train,” by Elizabeth Cotten. We made some new verses with places we can go by train.

G: “Airport. Train station!”

T: “Shinkansen!”

Jake: “Where else can we go?”

T: “We can go to that train station. Just sit down and go.”

A: “America.”

T: “We can go to Africa.”

We went outside for a very long walk, all the way to Azabu-Juban Station! On the way, we met some construction workers fixing the road. We counted so many orange cones! We said hi to the puppies in the pet shop. We stopped outside the supermarket and saw mushrooms, potatoes, and eggplants. When we got to the station, we saw the escalator. If we go down the escalator, we can get on the train! S and T wanted to go on the train today! Jake told us that maybe someday we can, but not today. We have to go back and have lunch!

On the way back, we smelled the yummy bread at the bakery and the curry at the curry restaurant.

Thanks so very much for today. We’ll see everyone tomorrow!
